Christian Dior F/W 2016.17 : Julia Nobis by Steven Meisel

That awkwardness is why the first shot is the only one that worked for me - she's falling over and it elicits a reaction, making me feel as if I have to do something, reach into the shot and balance her or catch her.

I thought it was a clever technique, until I saw the other two shots, and realised I was seeing something more than what was there.

Totally agree, the quirkiness of the first shot really appealed to me. The rest of the campaign is nice, but not very interesting.

I like it. Meisel can really make everything look better and Julia was a good choice for this.

Who ever comes as a womenswear creative director needs to have Carine and Meisel doing the campaigns everytime.
If they can deliver such an energetic campaign with an obviously "low budget" and "poor fashion", i want to see what they can do with a proper vision!

This is so good! And a Dior woman smiling??i'm all for it!

They were very strategic with this. Meisel's photography and the styling are a bit Galliano-era, paired with Julia who's the muse of Raf-era.

They actually made the clothes look desirable so I guess that's a win. No hope for the accessories tho...

LOL That awkward/tripping with her expressionless face concept would really work if the entire campaign consisted of similar shots, but I guess that would be too much and not commercial enough, sadly. As it is now, it sticks out like a giant zit when viewed in context with the others…

Thanks sixtdaily for the rest. The trio of her walking against the wind is just simple and effective, reminding me even of the McQueen show with the girl in a wind tunnel with the snow blowing against her and that cape. This is the department-store version...

Agreed! We need more Meisel x Carine in general, maybe he can head out to CR Fashion Books for a few stints?
The full campaign looks much better, this is the Dior woman I prefer. Stylish to boot, yet accessible.

I just hope next season it would be outdoors.

I genuinely just don't know what to think of this. Meisel's current campaign for Moschino is fantastic but this seems a little tepid and mediocre to me. Yeah it's wonderful to see Steven Meisel back at Dior but I can't help but to feel disappointed. Was it last minute? There's no real Meisel DNA if you ask me.. and I'm certain just about any other top photographer could've shot this. Maybe seeing the campaign inside the magazines will make me a believer.. IDK.

Side note: The close-up of Julia with the black handbag is horrifying! Surely that was Photoshopped.

 Nope, Meisel only works for Condé's mags. CR is not part of that group. **Edited**

The pictures really make the collection looking so much better than on the runway.

it's pretty decent for a campaign for a brand that is VERY lacking of any direction right now!! julia is great.

What I find really striking to me is the styling,it's put well together and it's more interesting than Raf's era.Even though the picture itself is pretty generic Meisel's studio but Julia looks great(Smiley one is breathtaking). So i give all the credit to Carine this time.

That second to last shot where she has her hand on the forehead is so unflattering. Can't believe they released it.

Seeing the whole campaign... some shots are more successful than others, but it's a good campaign overall.

Carine+Meisel Elevated the cloth into couture level.

The clothes and the bags looked really desirable in this so in a way, that's a huge success. Much better than the passionless campaign during Raf's era.
