SHADES OF GRAY: Gray, the emblematic color of Christian Dior and synonymous with London’s weather, is also the theme of the next Marion Cotillard-fronted campaign for the French house. Print ads depicting the actress aboard the London Eye Ferris wheel dressed in Dior’s cruise collection and hoisting a gray version of the iconic Lady Dior bag with a shoulder strap are slated to break in a range of December issues, including Vogue Nippon, Elle in the U.K. and France, and Vanity Fair in the U.S.
This represents the fourth and final episode of the handbag saga, which has also seen Cotillard pictured in Paris (on the Eiffel Tower), Shanghai and New York, each with an assigned color theme. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shot the gray London scene, with hair by Julien d’Ys, makeup by Stéphane Marais and styling by Joe McKenna. Dior plans to launch a mini movie in tandem with the gray installment, to be unveiled to the press in London in late November along with a new Dior boutique on New Bond Street and a dinner hosted by Dior chief executive officer Sidney Toledano. The London connections don’t end there: Dior also plans to unveil a John Galliano-designed Dior Christmas tree at Claridge’s, and host an event to fete an exhibition of René Gruau illustrations at Someret House. “Dior Illustrated: René Gruau and the Line of Beauty” runs from Nov. 10 to Jan. 9.
