Click Lit fans The Secret Dream World Of a Shopoholic (Confessions of a Shopaholic to the US) is being turned into a movie OR IS IT.

It's has been announced that Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) has signed on to star as the title role of Rebecca Bloomwood in the upcoming romantic comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic. The film tells the story of a college grad who lands a job as a financial journalist in New York City to support where she nurtures her shopping addiction. It’s based on the novel with the same name by Sophie Kinsella. Production will begin in January.

:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

Sorry but Isla is NOT Becky Bloomwood. They have completely changed the plotline and it's going to be set in New York. This is my favorite book series and I am so upset about this and I'm not the only one. People over at her official site have been voicing their dissapointment that Sophie herself had to post a message addressing the subject. Hardly anyone is pleased with casting and plot.

This is apparently the new plotline -

The film is about a 25 years old woman who investigates bank fraud deals with the stress of her job by endlessly shopping. She ends up hopelessly in debt, but her work leads to love when she becomes romantically involved with a man she is investigating.

Breakdown of Suze's Character: Late 20s, African-American or Puertorican. Rebecca's best friend. Suze is the "kind of girl you'd want as a best friend. If Rebecca is a white wine spritzer, Suze is a good solid bottle of bud". Warm, down-to-earth, with common sense, a receptionist for a firm that sells undersized furniture to hotels, Suze is about to get married to her live-in boyfriend, Danny, but she always has time for her friend Rebecca. Deeply concerned about Rebecca's mounting debt and apparent inability to resist anything that smacks of a sale, Suze does her own version of damage control for Rebecca, helping her go through all her bills and later forcing her to enroll in a shophaholics anonymous group. Suze appears to be without limit to her generosity to Rebecca, and somewhat of an enabler, but when she discovers that Rebecca has not only lied to her but discarded her bridesmaid's dress, Suze has reached the end of her rope.

---------------------------------------------

So Suze has gone from being rich and blonde to black and a receptionist. Danny the token gay designer (who isn't even in the first book) to straight and Suze's boyfriend . What happened to Tarquin.

This is just horrible. It's Bridget Jones 2 all over again. My friends and I are sooooooooooo pissed.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo :judge:

This is just terrible.
It's not even that they're changing it a little bit, they're completely changing the plot and the characters.
It's ridiculous :(

I do enjoy the series. Good trashy fun, but nothing amazing... However, all these changes are a little too much. But then again people are always going to complain when it comes to adaptations. :P

Oh!!! I didn't know they were going to do the movie, but with this argument I'd prefer they didn't do it!!!
I'm really disapointed, this serie was one of my favorites books, but this story is so diferent...:angry::angry:

:woot: a friend told me about this book. i needn't have to read it because she practically told me the story herself. however, i read the other series and it's really entertaining.

BUT... to have Isla as Becky!?!?!? :yuk: Hell no! I much prefer the likes of Reese Witherspoon. Changing the plot?!!?! WTF?!...i know when they do adaptations it changes a bit but not everything! :ninja:

the plot sounds HORRIBLE buuuut i think Isla is perfect for becky!! don't kill me guys.

I'm all open for changes because I know books are different from movies and sometimes it's necessary in order to make a good movie. But they didn't just make small adjustment, they changed the entire concept! The entire storyline is different, horrible. It's disappointing. I'll probably watch it anyway out of curiosity but the enthusiasm I had, is getting lesser by every new "change" they come up with.

The plot is completely different, I hate it when they ruin things  It'll be like The Devil Wears Prada all over again.

From the official site;

Rebecca Bloomwood is sweet and charming girl who has a little problem that is rapidly turning into a big problem: she's hopelessly addicted to shopping, and drowning in a sea of debt. While Rebecca has dreams of working for a fashion magazine, she can't quite get her foot in the door- that is, until she snags a job as an advice columnist for a finanical magazine published by the same company.
Overnight, her column becomes hugely popular, turning her into an overnight celebrity. But when her compulsive shopping and growing debt issues threaten to destory her love-life and derail her career, Rebecca struggles to keep it all from spiraling out of control...and is ultimeatley forced to reevaluate whats really important in life.

And what is that about Suze's description at the top of the page? Pathetic! Talk about making a completley different movie up! This film needs Tarquin! And London...!

why not just change the title of the movie to something altogether different while they're at it. Since the only concept they're adhering to form the book is the fact that Becky is a shopaholic

I can understand changing the book story plot in the movie version like they did for The Devil Wears Prada, but this can't even be called changing...it's just a completely different story

The thing I liked about the book was how she was working for the finanical magazine & all the conferences & events etc that she attended that got her interacting with Luke- and the twist with her writing that freelance piece & the conflict it causes with him...this is just stupid- advice colomunist, New York? It sounds like Sex & The City-ish to me.

Hugh Dancy- Luke Brandon

Funny but I always though Hugh would be fantastic as Tarquin rather than Luke.

I'm over it now and I won't be going to see it. Hopefully one day someone will make a faithfull adaptation (ie set in England, Tarquin appears and Suze is back to being white toff) and we can forget this bastarized American version.

Thanks for the update Lacroix.

^ Why do you think Hugh would make a better Tarquin? I always pictured Tarquin being very spindly and gawky looking & Luke being suave-ish like Hugh

And this film is going to be so disappointing, I can already imagine how much the changes will annoy me

How sad to hear. I was really excited about them making it into a movie as I really liked the books. Disappointing. I will probably still see it though.

ugh this makes me so angry! I don't understand why they feel the need to completely change the plot. I know that there's no way they could make it exactly like the book, but this is a completely different story. They're taking out all the good parts and leaving us with some crap story that I've heard a million times before. Why are they even going to bother calling this a movie adaptation of the book if it's so loosely based on it?! This sucks.

Completely agree ro, nothing about the plot is very unique now

Why have they changed this so much? I understand there needs to be some changes but this is ridiculous. Why does it have to be set in NYC?? I hate it when books set in England are switched to being set in the US in the films (I don't mean that offensively, but it just really irks me). And they've played around with the plot line so much its practically no longer an adaptation

I think that's because Luke I'd imagine as goal oriented career driven businessman, American by nature. While Tarquin is a rich aristocrat with this "never mind" attitute.

^ i completely agree. I also see Hugh as Tarquin more than Luke. I've also just looked through Hugh's movie stills and now all I can see him as is Tarquin lol. Hugh IS rather lanky while i've always imaines Luke to be a big, square-shouldered, very pulled together, and determined.
