Copa America 2011 (American Cup)

I don´t think that Argentina can be considered a "big team" anymore :(
yeah, we have great players (the best one in the world if you will) but we´re not strong and we haven´t beat a powerful team in a very long time...

The group phase just ended, the scores go like this:
(bold the countries that classify for quarter finals)

Group A
Colombia 7
Argentina 5

Costa Rica 3
Bolivia 1

Group B
Brasil 5
Venezuela 5
Paraguay 3

Ecuador 1

Group C
Chile 7
Uruguay 5
Peru 4

Mexico 0

And for Quarter Finals, matches go like this:
next saturday:
Colombia v/s Peru
Argentina v/s Uruguay

sunday:
Brazil v/s Paraguay
Chile v/s Venezuela

 Mexico the only team that didn´t acumulate a single point, even Costa Rica won a game.
Here are my forecasts:
- Colombia shouldn´t have much of a problem with Peru; but they need to be much more accurate, cause they have only scored 3 goals.
- Argentia is going to struggle with Uruguay, but they have the home advantage and Messi is "reborn" (although I don´t buy it, they won over C.R U-23 team not Spain :ninja:), so this game is going to end like the last game between this two with a 1-0 for Argentina.
- Brazil v. Paraguay is going to be an interesting match, and I can´t really make a prediction, cause Paraguay has knack for drawing their matches even when they are winning for 2 goals. So in Extra Time Brazil passes to the SF.
- Chile v. Venezuela, this is going to be a much tighter game, I know that Chile looks like they are playing in FF mode, but they have struggled in their games, they started loosing two games in their group matches. And Venezuela is playing really well, they mantain posesion of the ball, and have good shooters (beware of Juan Arango in the free kicks, he is lethal). This is up for anyone to grab, so I restrain myself from giving a forecast.
Last but not least, thank God that Don Gol, appeared in this tournament. I was starting to get a little worried. ;)

ok, now this is surprising, Peru has just classified for semifinals after beating Colombia 2-0 in the extended time.

this cup is really crazy  we cant really route for any team, everything is unpredictable.

we cant really route for any team, everything is unpredictable.

Not really, Colombia V/S Perú was unpredictable, but i think it's pretty much clear that Chile is going to win this competition, it's a favourite in almost every country, even argentina, and that's a lot to say !! :D

^^i wish i was as sure as you are my fellow chilean fan, i really want chile to win the cup, but im not a 100% that they are winning, i dont want to be so sure and then end up sad. i really thought Colombia was getting higher, they were showing really good football. but see them now. beated by peru.

now Uruguay v/s Argentina, bring it on boys! :boxer:

Argentina Out, sorry for kokobombon :(
Messi had a great first half, but Im starting to think he really is a "pecho frio" cold chested in english is like run out of batteries for the second half and the ET and not singing your national anthem is a no no. But I gotta say, that Uruguay has written (again) the book of how to win with a man down, and in enemy territory (they perform the Maracanazo, let´s not forget, so this type of achievements it's in their blood). Suarez drove crazy Argentinas defenders and Forlan is still proving his class, even when everybody was calling him a "cheater" and showing him the "horns" in every corner kick. It was for anyone to grab in the penalties, but Muslera is a monster of a goalkeeper.

Peru v. Colombia was a total surprise, but it´s like they say in spanish: Goles que no haces, te los hacen. And Peru defended well and counter attack Colombia making the most of their mistakes like in the first goal. I blame that on Colombia's goalkeeper (not because Yepes plays in AC Milan :innocent:). But what a hell was he doing so far away from his goal, that ball belonged to Yepes not the goalie. A much deserved victory for Peru, just because they scored the goals, like they say.

Hugo Sanchez in one annoying Biatch!!

Where was the "macho"??

So so happy Uruguay won. I hope the boys can rest and prepare for Tuesday's game. :D

just heard about this on the news and immediately thought of you koko...so sorry =(

btw, there's no thread for the women's WC? the usa-japan match is amazing (and i usually don't watch women's football)

and brazil is out.
but really, 4 penals... and the 4 of the out? embarassing.

and now Chile v/s Venezuela! :bounce:

^
what? o_0

That´s the mocking nickname the mexican media gives to Hugo Sanchez, for his fake spanish accent.

BTW I suck at giving forecasts. I missed 4 out of 4 in this QF, kinda like Brazil

P.S. So happy for Japan WNT, they were always behind the whole game, and then world champions, that´s the beauty of this sport. B)

and my beloved chile is out
i'm not going to lie and saying we played awful, because at least from my point of view we were more than Venezuela. even more in the second half. Valdivia is a total genius. But then again, football is not just about how much does a team stay in the contrary area, is more about how many goels does the team make above the other, and Chile had plenty of opportunities that they werent capable of specify, unlike Venezuela. it was already mention before "Goles que no haces, goles que te hacen"

It happened, to Colombia, it happened to Chile, it happened to Brazil (specially in penalty time) and in some sort of way it happened to Argentina too.

most of the offensive teams were defeated by the ones that were pure defensive or what we call here in south america (though i think is very disqualifying phrase): "Equipos Ratones" (Rat teams)

So now for the semi-finals:

Tuesday:
Peru v/s Uruguay

Wednesday:
Paraguay v/s Venezuela

btw, now that Chile is out, i'm routing for Uruguay for winning the cup! :boxer:

^
ohh sorry! also to models_vlada sorry guys

IMO chile was the stronger team IMO,i mean how many postes( ugh cant remember how to say this) did they miss.

again in penalties, we never win in penalties.
question is, does el Checho Batista stay after losing the Copa América in Argentina...?

i'm not asking for Maradona back, but whom will take over?

i like the uruguay team,
but i hope they don't win.

now it is Argentina 14
Urugay 14
Brazil 8

let paraguay have their 3rd or Venezuela their 1st Copa América
