Cover Rumor Thread

It’s just a speculation and i know that it’s not the right thread but since we have a little conversation going on i want to talk about a small idea. In the caption of Adut’s last Instagram post it says that “something special” is coming. Is there any chance that we’ll see Adut&Naomi together on Vogue US September issue or is it something else? Adut already got the print cover of Vogue US April issue so i'm not really sure if that will happen or not but let’s see what you guys are thinking.

Naomi Campbell on the cover of American Vogue’s September issue would be a REAL moment.

There’s simply no denying the fact Naomi’s YouTube series was a wonderful watch during the height of the pandemic, having had some brilliant subjects (including Anna Wintour) - and the series isn’t the only reason Naomi is deserving of the cover.

I would just LOVE for Naomi to have been photographed by Ethan James Green, with Wintour giving us something classic, elegant and regal for September. None of that bed sheet mess we got with Beyoncé by Tyler Mitchell.

As you are writing it, I’ve got that 100% feeling coming up in me...plus Beyonce, since these two are two weak for September.

An American Vogue cover is to Fashion magazines what a Birkin is to handbags. You can debate the merits all day, but to the masses it’s the pinnacle, and just about any model or celebrity would consider it a feather in their cap. Despite some people claiming that many celebrities (specifically BIWOC) would decline an American Vogue cover, I think they can get just about anyone they want. There’s a reason so many of the absolute most beloved and/or successful celebrities do *multiple* covers with them. Michelle Obama, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Adele, Gaga, Serena, Taylor, Lupita, Scarlett, etc. There’s a reason celebrities describe their covers in terms like “a dream come true.”

Naomi was on US Vogue's September cover back in 1989, but there were also low moments like when she got relegated to a blurry gatefold cover back in May 1996.

Naomi would be so incredible - if done right. I hope they won't pull a publicity stunt for the sjw approval by hiring Tyler Mitchell to shoot her only for the sake of having a full black team shoot the September cover in the name of their ''hope'' narrative, cause that'd be super dumb since we all know the next month would be followed by a generic celebrity and the movement towards representation would blow over as quickly as Breonna Taylor's case (may she rest in peace!).
If you're going to pull stunts like that, at least find a decent black team cause Tyler Mitchell surely can't be the only black photographer you can find. And for the love of God, don't let it be Nadine either. Expand the damn horizons! Talking about all that black talent representation but I can't even name 3 black photographers (and I don't even like the two I know)! Now I genuinely don't give a damn what color are the people in the front or the back of the camera as long as the final image looks good, but since representation obviously matters to people it'd be good to have at least some variety instead of pulling out the same three token artists every other month to make the sjws swoon. Same goes for models (don't even get me started on the use of token black models over and over again.....) and the Asian teams. This is why every time I hear Edward talk about his fight for equality I just wanna punch him in the face. You're not fighting for equality, you're fighting for press b*tch. Let's hope Anna's not the same.

Excuse my rant. We're probably all clowns for being convinced that Naomi got the cover anyway (hope I'm wrong). Watch it be Dula Peep lmao

I don’t think (and I don’t want) Beyonce will get the september cover (again) because she’s so pretentious to force Anna to reveal the cover the same day as one of her projects... and we all know Black is King was released las week. I’m crossing my fingers because I don’t wanna read another piece wrote by herself or a journalist praising her just for the only reason she’s Beyonce.

I’d love to see Naomi on the September cover again (even if she shares the spotlight with Adut Akech or Anok Yai ) but I don’t mind if Lady Gaga, Viola Davis, Gigi Hadid or Nicki Minaj get the cover. Even Dua Lipa is ok but would be a non event.

Where did the Naomi rumor come from? I always assumed Gigi would front the cover until she revealed her pregnancy a few weeks ago. I can still see her landing the cover. Her being pregnant fits the hope message and it would fall in line with Vogue values, but i feel as if we just had covers celebrating motherhood at the beginning of the year.

Can't believe Charlie D'amelio was considered, although I do think her sister Dixie is very photogenic

I can only HOPE it isn’t Naomi.

LOL!

The fact there was not a single mention of Naomi in the September issue of UK Vogue, considering that she basically helped usher Edward's tenure to UK audience, and the fact that she's so vocal on a lot of issues was telling. It also showed the petty side to Saint Edward that people conveniently gloss over - he clearly leans more towards Anna than Edwina McCann who can separate personal beef and what's good for the magazine/reader.
Naomi is extremely strategic. Has to be for someone on top of her career for so long. No way would she cut a resource off without another one lined up.

Didn't Edward and Naomi have a fall-out a while ago? I feel like there's been no reference to her made by Edward in UK Vogue or mutual tagging on either of their Instas in recent months, which is a first. Mind you, I say that but I don't really follow any of the mediums above very closely so I could be completely wrong.

What kind of nonsensical nonsense? And how dare you even mention “sjw’s” derisively in the same breath as a woman murdered by police because those “sjw’s” are the same people fighting for justice for her still despite everyone else moving on? How truly offensive. This entire post should’ve stayed in your drafts.

Just when you think you’ll read only one offensive post per page. ‘People’ meaning ME and I SAID WHAT I SAID. What Black woman wants a Vogue cover right now when the only reason why they’ll get one is because they know Colonial Broad and Condé Nast is being called out for their racism? You don’t think that tokenism would bother them?

Of course you don’t since you so offensively started that Black women think a Vogue cover is an accomplishment. Really? Michelle Obama, the first Black FLOTUS, Harvard Law grad who mentored her husband at the high profile law firm where they met is going to look back at all her accomplishments in her golden years and think fondly of her magazine covers from racist Colonial Broad? Really? Or Oprah, the first Black woman billionaire? Or Serena, one of the greatest athletes of all time? They’ll think fondly of their multiple covers Colonial Broad gave them to avoid putting other Black women on the cover, in essence tokenizing them and think fondly about it?

Nevermind the context for these covers - Oprah’s when Vogue actually meant something but she had to lose weight to get it, or Michelle’s covers as a favor to the woman who raised a lot of money for her husband’s presidential campaigns.

As if politics, playing nice, money and a whole host of other factors didn’t come into play other than you thinking that Colonial Broad was so generous to look down on these lowly Black women who shouldn’t expect anything so CB giving them a magazine cover is a major accomplishment for them. Because that’s the subtext of your post. And all I have to say to that is WTF?

Lupita, maybe since being a fashion darling was her lifeline when Hollywood only hired her for voiceover work. Or Rihanna since it was a stepping stone to her being a ‘mogul’. But let’s not conflate all Black women in this conversation because you do know not all Black women are interchangeable, right?
