Cover Rumor Thread

Speaking of models on the cover of British Vogue... I still haven't forgotten about the supermodel documentary coming on AppleTV+ (official release date remains unknown) and Cindy Crawford mentioning in her Vogue Arabia March 2023 interview that her peers had recently reunited in New York for a shoot.

Not to exaggerate, but I would die if that was shot by Meisel for British Vogue. Die. No one else would have quite the impact if I'm honest.

The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if we all receive the gift of Edward putting himself on the cover, as some final kind of 'first'.

Truthfully, that was my first thought about what his final Vogue UK cover would be. :peekingeye:

I expect Claudia or Cindy by Meisel again, that would be cool. With Edward's agenda I doubt there's a place for any model in British Vogue this year. About Daria, also I can see Alt or Carine calling her for a collab. Daria was the next big super after Gisele and people forget about it.

Meisel hasn’t photographed Claudia or Cindy in years and I don’t see it happening at all (I obviously wouldn’t mind).

a Daria Werbowy comeback would be a dream come true.

Kit Connor is inside British Vogue. They’re doing that thing where they release the edits before the cover.

I wouldn't call Daria a supermodel. That term is used so loosely, soon every model from 2000s will be a super.

I don't think someone can be considered a supermodel unless the general populace are aware of who they are. I'm sure everyone has their own definitions and in general most of these terms are kind of watered down. Everyone and everything is an icon, a legend, and the moment these days. For me, their modeling work* must transcend the fashion industry and cross over into general pop culture notoriety for someone to be a supermodel. 99.9% of people who aren't heavily interested in the fashion industry don't have a clue who Daria is at this point. And that takes nothing away from her talent or body of work.

Kate Moss, Giselle, Naomi, Claudia, Cindy Crawford, etc. are supers. I don't think Daria is.

Where do we fit Malgosia?
Love this topic! Malgosia was contemporary to Gisele (98/99 seasons), and she did more haute couture work. Gisele also did it, but Anna Wintour elevate her career to the highest level possible. I agree the greatest modern fashion models are The Trinity, Kate and Gisele. As a child, even I wasn't a fashion consumer, but aside this I recognize seeing Daria's face everywhere (also Gemma and before them I remember ads with Karen Elson, years later I knew their identities and stories very well). Local ELLE put her several times on the cover at the moment. Of course she wasn't that famous as Gisele (even Adriana Lima was more known that Daria in the 2000s), but she was special as any other girls. I love each one of them a lot. They are not only beautiful, but also so talented and owners of great personalities.

What the Edward Enninful is this?!!! Well, another proof that his agenda has more weight that fashion itself.

But in this case these supers are not only models but also celebrities. I think the term can be used for both models who became so big to the point they turned into celebrities (like the ones cited plus the nepobabies who like it or not - I usually don't - are part of the pop culture), but also to models who are more than icons in the industry and who stay in our (fashion fans) imaginary for long and make a difference when they work and cause a spark when we see them because they cause a little commotion but are not huge pop stars like Kate, Gisele, The Trinity, Cindy, Claudia, etc.

Where is Linda? She had the comeback British Vogue cover, the Fendi campaign, and then silence.

Fair point, if someone wants to use the term supermodel for people who may be viewed as an icon *within the fashion industry* if not by the general public, than perhaps Daria would fit.

The difference between the supermodels you and I cited specifically vs models like Kendall, Gigi, Bella, etc. is that the source of the fame of the ones I'd consider supermodels is their modeling. Once they got famous there may have been high-profile relationships or even scandals that contributed to their fame and pop-culture prominence, but the catalyst for all of it was their modeling. With someone like Kendall, even though she is hugely successful in terms of bookings and such as a model, it is not the original source of her fame. With Gigi and Bella, they also got a reality tv start and also used relationships (Zayn, The Weeknd) to bolster their careers in a major way. Arguably Bella's career has now eclipsed that, but a significant portion of her fame out of the gate as a model was being Gigi's little sister, so there's always been a celebrity-first element to her fame for me.

I’m manifesting hard that she will be the model for Steven Meisel and Edward Enninful’s final cover for British Vogue.

I'm thinking Edwards final cover will be Rihanna in some capacity. Solo cover or a group cover with him and his favorites like Alexandra's final cover.

Alexandra's cover had more sence because she run Vogue for 25 years, compared to six and some coints from EE. He started so strong and after the pandemic and the global shared content he become more weak and close to Farneti in his way to direct his magazine. Still, that Alexandra cover was minor compared to the epic 50 models cover from Vogue Italia. Both ways of making Vogue are no the best ones.
