I really wish it would be Alber Ebaz and NICOLAS GHESQUIERE guest-editing in VP :wub:
but it's just my wish :)

Casta guest editing does not excite me, (particularly since its the anniversary issue) i didnt like last years either, actually pretty much despise that issue, very badly done imho. But i have a love/hate relationship with VP these days so i have to wait to see what they do. -_-

Oh i so very much second that, both would be wonderful, and i would love to see what they would come up with.

that sounds really good, and Tisci as guest/editor would be heaven for me, i could see an overdose of Mariacarla :p

And if it's really Casta the guest this year, maybe we'll see more models, who knows, you'd expect for an issue like this guest/edited and for 2 months to blow you away, but sometimes the results are mediocre, remember last year, that issue was really weak

i'm more excited about the calendar!

I, like everyone else, find it very strange that Laetitia was chosen to guest edit an issue of VP, especially one as monumental as an anniversary issue. I would much rather see an influential, iconic designer (like Ford, Ghesquiere, Elbaz, or even Sonia Rykiel) guest edit. Laetitia just seems like too much of a random choice. That's why I think it may be a rumour. Hell, I'd rather see Courtney Love guest edit over Laetitia. That would make for one CRAZY issue ! But she makes even less sense than Laetitia does for an anniversary issue. If one really thinks about it, Laetitia is a French icon considering that she is the current Marianne, so I guess it is not too strange if she ends up being the person who was chosen. One would think that for an anniversary issue, the magazine would focus on its history, and therefore the history of France. And, in a way, Laetitia is the current face of the country.

^^Taben (and any other french tFSers anyway), what do you think about vavavinny's statement? Do you consider her as an icon? I personally don't, and I think it's pretty safe to say that people don't care that much about her here, non?

Well to be honest I don't think "people" care more about Sofia Coppola or John Galliano  It's hard to consider anyone an icon these days... But she's certainly as iconic some of the other guest editors, and probably more relevent to most French people, who actually know her... and she's a MODEL for God's sake

I've already said it but I'll say it again: she was YSL's muse, the most successful and recognisable French model in years, chosen as the face of the Republic, very successful inspite of unusual proportions (for a model) and know to the public worldwide thanks to her work for Victoria's Secret and, more recently, L'Oréal... She's already been on the cover of Vogue Paris twice and is one of the few successful models-turned-actresses... She's starring in Serge Gainsbourg's biopic as Brigitte Bardot, which is creating a lot of buzz here...

She wouldn't be my first choice but I don't see why so many people have a problem with her....

Maybe I should have said a French icon. When you ask people who they would consider as a French icon, I can see answers like Catherine Deneuve and a couple of others but Laeticia Casta.... :ninja:

I think my main problem is that she's getting the cover for the anniversary issue. If it would have been last year, I wouldn't have been as disappointed as I am today.

Probably not of interest to most people but Laetitia was replaced as the face of Marianne in 2003 :flower:

Oh, thank you for the information ^_^! I read somewhere that she was replaced, but I also read that she got the honor for a decade, so I was confused !

TheFrenchy, I am sorry if I overstated anything . I am not French and have no idea what the French think of Laetitia, so I am not really the best person to make comments ! I just assumed that since she was chosen to be the Marianne, the same honor shared by Brigitte Bardot and Catherne Deneuve, that she has to be somewhat of a modern day French icon.

^Aww, that's fine. I'm sure many here thought the same thing :flower: Not to kill the whole "Marianne" thing but a tv host (remember Evelyne Thomas guys? ) was once choosen as the face of Marianne so I'm not sure it requires so much prestige :ninja:

Perhaps we feel a bit mystified by her being the guest editor because we don't really have a great awareness of her as a creative individual in her own right. We know what products she has promoted, what parts she has played, what concepts she has symbolised, but we don't really know who she is. We don't know what she's really about, at heart - and we're getting an issue that's coming from her viewpoint? I feel it's no surprise we can't get a handle on the idea.

To be honest, I see her mostly as a pin-up type model. But obviously, the French tFS members would be the most informed. She seems so young also to be editing the 90 yr anniversary issue. How would she have the scope needed? Or perhaps she has a special interest in the past of Vogue Paris - then she would be a great choice. French designers, photographers etc would obviously have to know about its history....that's why they seem like more appropriate choices.

! Very good point. Who is chosen is probably just based on whom a board of old men find attractive on a particular day !

No one could have said it better. Unlike Kate Moss, who is at this point a brand, there is nothing iconically unique or signature about Laetitia. Yes, she is a beautiful woman who has had an excellent career endorsing multiple products and appearing on multiple magazine covers, but she does not really have any defining traits which set her apart from other models. Well, the whole "Marianne" honor is certainly a very special accomplishment, but it only speaks to her role as being a beautiful woman, not a visionary or influential human being.

If Carine wanted to choose a French model, I think Ines de la Fressange would have been a much better pick. She was the muse to not one, but two of the (arguably) most iconic designers in French fashion. Plus, she has recently re-emerged as a major presence in the French fashion world. It would make much more sense if she was chosen to edit the holiday issue.
