Cover Rumor Thread

She already got Marie Claire, W, Instyle and Glamour, so why shade on Anna? Hilarious.

Thank you. Add in Elle as well. And this was all BEFORE she started dating the Jonas brother. In fact the W cover was part of their new 'Royals' group, a lineup which included Tracee Ellis Ross. People have been throwing Priyanka's name around as a prospective Vogue cover star around the same time in this very thread because she had a build-up. Just like the digital Allure cover. So it's a bit surprising to hear she's only getting the cover because of her relationship. It's so diminishing. That line of thinking is toxic, sorry. And you're insulting Anna's intelligence by making it look like a Jonas brother would actually feature in her life. Also, let's not forget that Priyanka Chopra was actually a household name in her native country prior to Hollywood. So there's that career too. Still doesn't matter? Ok then.

I'm sure if Blake Lively had married Ryan Reynolds at the same time she booked her Vogue covers the consensus would've been that she got the cover due to that as opposed to just being Anna's pet.

Sigh.

I believe you yourself have said on these forums that certain actresses aren't deserving of a Vogue cover just because they've covered other magazines, so yeah. Priyanka, prior to today's announcement, had yet to land a major prestige cover by herself. The W and Elle were shared covers with other stars and I'm not impressed by the digital Allure cover either because if they really wanted Priyanka on a newsstand cover they could've given her Lily James or Janelle Monae's covers from earlier this year.

I can think of one actress in particular that you've shot down as being a Vogue cover subject who has had multiple solo covers of Glamour, InStyle, Marie Clare, Elle and Allure and swap out a shared W cover for a Vanity Fair solo cover, so yeah.

Priyanka only had anticipation of landing a cover because her name has been in the press so much the past half year because of Jonas. She wasn't getting as much press for that movie she had out earlier this year with A-listers Jim Parsons and Clare Danes (/sarcasm). That's just a fact.

Also, I'm sure you yourself can agree that Anna has made choices over the past few years that have diminished her/the magazine, have had you scratching your head and have probably lead to many cancelled subscriptions so I don't know if that argument holds up.

Same as the Bollywood argument. I don't know how successful her career was in Bollywood because I don't live in India, I live in America. So for Priyanka to appear on an American cover, she needs to be relevant in America, not just India/Bollywood.

Let's just say that, if we follow your line of thinking, there are a ton of black actresses (Gabrielle Union or Nia Long for instance) that should've had covers because their films/tv shows were successful in the early 2000s. Even Tracee with Girlfriends. Never mind the fact that those films/shows weren't 'mainstream', they were successful but those actresses didn't get covers. So just like Priyanka had success in Bollywood prior to America, it wasn't 'mainstream' American success so we surely can't say her past work in Bollywood qualifies her for a cover today.

And lastly, speaking of Blake (even though her pedigree is slightly better than Priyanka's - her tv show was a hit that lasted for 6 seasons, she worked with big directors like Ben Affleck and Oliver Stone and she got a Chanel and Gucci contract while Priyanka has no major house contracts nor major projects with big directors) I did stand up for her previously saying she put in the work with what she had to get her covers too (which is why the Reynolds argument doesn't stand - she had covers prior to meeting him. The only cover he might've had some influence in helping her land was Blake's last).

So I'll do the same for Priyanka. She put in the work with what she had (a big machine, a wedding with yes, a Jonas, I doubt she would've landed the cover if she were marrying a fellow actor from India, for instance, novelty as a Southeast Asian actress) and made it work for her. So good for her.

If she wears her actual wedding dress on the cover, it'll be Ralph Lauren. If she wears a different dress, I bet it's going to be a Marchesa again.

Hailee Steinfeld is on the cover of the new UK Cosmo - I saw it on sale in stores this morning. From what I remember, it's a lavender shade, I rather liked it, but I do have a soft spot for Hailee on a magazine cover. The cover shot is not a direct reprint of the US cover, but I expect that editorial is where the images are coming from.

They try not to do direct reprints which is commendable and UK Cosmo follows a more sophisticated visual direction than other editions, so I'm keen to see what it looks like. Hailee is very photogenic. Very much enjoyed her Marie Claire cover earlier this year.

The jist of the point I tried to make is that her success and popularity in America is not tied to a man, least of all a Jonas brother. It may have made her more famous, but it's not the start and end, as what was insinuated when the news were released. But oh well. I'm only a fan of how she print presence, not her craft. So not entirely invested.

Agreed with you re Anna, but I won't be speaking on the race thing because that's absolutely not really relevant here.

The jist of the point I tried to make is that her success and popularity in America is not tied to a man, least of all a Jonas brother.

And my point over the my past couple of posts is that her success in Hollywood, regarding her work/projects, is minimal. A failed music career, a cancelled tv show and no breakout film roles (either critical or commercial) does not a successful career make. Facts are facts.

But to give you this, she does have millions upon millions of Instagram followers. So there's that, in terms of success. Now thinking about it, it does appear that for a woman of color who is an actress to get a Vogue cover, she either needs to be an Oscar winner/nominee (Lupita or Ruth but not Viola or Taraji for some 'reason') or have millions upon millions of Instagram followers (Selena Gomez, Zendaya and now Priyanka). And yes, race is relevant since there are a number of highly accomplished women of color who have not graced the cover of Vogue, some of which directly paved the way for Priyanka to enjoy whatever modicum of success she does have in Hollywood but Anna pretends they don't exist.

But anyway, at this point we'll have to agree to disagree. I will say that I very much doubt she would be on this cover is she was getting married to a Bollywood actor or an investment banker, though. So I think that says it all, personally re: the Jonas brother.

Nick and Priyanka are the stars of Vogue’s ‘first ever digital cover’, there are two. Does this mean she isn’t the newsstand cover...?

Another reason why Priyanka is on the cover is the beauty of Indian Women. See Saffron’s Vogue cover and US Vogue’s editorial in June starring all Indian cast, just glamorous.

Is that digital cover for real lol? Glittering animated logo like it came straight out of 2004? Since when do they do digital covers?

For those saying that she got the cover because of her career, well, obviously that digital cover says it all. And this...

She got the cover because of the wedding, and she deserves the cover because of her career and as an influencer and the most successful Indian actress in Hollywood.

I don't think anyone really questioned whether or not she deserved the cover. What most people found questionable was why now? Why gave the cover during the time she was about to have a wedding. What kind of message does Anna want to convey by doing so?

It's not like she's a Kim K whose cover is still up for debate to this day.

Kate Moss and Melania Trump also got a cover because of her wedding. It’s common for Vogue to promote cover stars who have weddings or new relationships and people want to see them because weddings are sweet and beautiful.

But that has definitely gotten lost in all this wedding hoopla - admittedly I haven't read everything written about the cover on the gossip/women's interest websites but those I have read haven't mentioned Priyanka being a 'cover first'. It's all about the wedding.

It's actually not common. We can count on one hand over the past 2 decades or so that women have scored covers because of their weddings. And out of those 4 women, only one, Kate Moss, has landed dozens of Vogue covers because of her career achievements/accomplishments. You can't say that the other 3, including Priyanka, would have landed a cover had they not gotten married.

Is that necessary that a cover star has to do ‘something’ to be on a cover??? It’s fashion magazine, not TIME.

Anyway, January covers are being released left, right and centre, yet still no sign of Vogue Italia? Did we settle on who would get it based on that preview?

The Spice Girls posted a backstage picture of a photoshoot on their social media account with the text 'strik a pose, there's nothing to it VOGUE'. Could be a feature for an upcoming Vogue UK issue? I doubt Edward would give them the cover, even though that would be the best thing ever.
