thanks benzo.....

chairfan--awesome!!! it's the little things.....

thinking of making a tshirt out of the left over parts from the jacket....I can't throw anything away.....

Kisa--I have no idea how one would distress velvet.......washing it would ruin it......and you couldn't sand it....

I really need to reasses my wardrobe. Alot of clothes are too big so i need to work out what to get taken in and what to put away. I have a few evening dresses that i think i shouldnt get altered, just put away for when im older.

I need to change the lengths of a few skirts. They are like on the knee since i have grown, use to be below, but now i think i need to take it up a few inches.

I have a few bras that i dont want to really use any more so im thinking about making them the base off dresses that i make. But i need to find a design.

I really need to evaluate my wardrobe

Purechris, loving your Undercover knock off..... It must have took you a lot of time...! I am sure you're very happy of the final result as it is very cool! I really love the idea of one side being a shirt turned upside down! ^_^

thx kimkhuu......it actually didn't take very long...probably 5 hours tops cut and sew....when you consider that all of the hems were already done.....the time consuming part was laying it out and figuring what shirt should be where.....

^ Then you must be a pro....! It would have taken me much longer....., just to figure how to make a proper cutting so that the fit is nice and not badly sewn.

I am trying to customise some of my stuff, being inspired by the trompe l'oeil, watercolors and color blocks trends... !

all of chris' stuff that he makes looks completely professional...
it's really impressive...
the boy has mad skills...

between all the preparations for the maths exam I found some time to "pimp my jeans" (oh how ghetto) haha
Took some motoroil and golden (metallic) acrylic paint...
So here are some pictures of how the jeans looked a few minutes ago (now there's a lil bit more golden paint):

Well... Maybe you actually could wash it gently in cold water? Or dampen it a bit and press down on it, perhaps cold rather than hot? Treat it in some way, maybe wax it very, very lightly? Is the velvet matte or shiny, what is it made of?

This is interesting...

yes tott....it's very interesting.....depending on the type of velvet it is.....cotton, synthetic, silk, crushed, stretch...it's hard to think of anything to do without knowing....

...like the idea of a wax applied.....I was thinking of burning it....with an iron to flatten out the pile

I've been thinking about waxing my Jil Sander shearling jacket, it could be interesting. That kind of velvety suede won't stay perfect anyway, so why not "destroy" it deliberately... I'll wait a bit before I do something I'll regret though!

Scorching/melting very slightly could absolutely work if the velvet is a bit synthetic, I was also thinking about that!

great minds;) :flower:

what are you waxing with??? I'm curious...

Mulletboy--I like what you did with the jeans.....motor oil...good one;)

I have this block of wax you're using for waxing the thread when you're sewing leather. You can use it like you would an eraser, with light or heavy pressure and more or less strokes.

And if you add heat, it could get more interesting, I guess...

tott...OMG...:o...

you are very brave to even consider that...:woot:...

This is interesting...

The label reads 100% cotton, so I suppose it's cotton-velvet. What I did was to break out the scissors, and shave the parts I wanted to be distressed for HOURS. Little by little it's working.^_^

But maybe not brave enough to actually do it, softie... At least not until I've managed to damage it by mistake.

kisa, sounds interesting and time-consuming...! :p

I can't believe I've missed this thread! So inspiring

Actually I've been posting in "Sewing" what would rightfully belong here.

I like to embroider onto oxford shirts and zip-up sweatshirts, I've replaced buttons on various things, shortened hems, customised necklines and straps, and recently sewed up a pair of old jeans to make them "skinny"

a shirt I customised for myself

One half of a pair of wings I embroidered onto a sweatshirt for my sister (took me FOREVER!) And an ace of spades I did for my brother

And my jeans (previously abercro, bie bootcut  )

I replaced the buttons on this trench last night...I'll take a picture of the finished product today (image from laredoute.com)

Otherwise, for shaving the pile, you could probably use a razorblade or a safety razor (I'd go for the cheapest disposables I could find at the drugstore.) (Razors/razorblades also work well for removing fiber-pills from knits) I'd say, start slowly until you get the knack of it, especially with a razorblade, there's a certain angle you have to find to keep from nicking the backing.

good luck kisa...
nice embroidery clavdia...
