Thanks for the reinforcement, Chanel...I'm getting all nervous that Curious is going to do something to the beautiful sleeves!

Colored sashes and nehru collar are great ideas. I agree on not changing the skirt length.

About "five inches below"...I'm not used to inches so its not exact but I just meant to find a good dividing point, but it's just an idea!

Let us know how you style it Curious!

hm

i have alot of questions in fact.

silkscreen.
- all i know about that is u have to use a paint (what paint is that?) and brush over a mount of your stencils? am i correct?
- how does the print feels when it is done.
- what are the pros and cons?
- i have to seperate the colors of my image and do them one by one on each different mount?

heat transfer
- pros and cons?
- how does the print feels like?
- it's by printing your image onto the special paper and then heat pressed onto the material?

dye?
- pros and cons?
- how does the dye on the material feels? no pop up like the former as it has already submerged with the material?

so.. is there any other methods around?
and what are the most used techniques by the fashion designers around?
- and let's say if i were to print a photograph onto the material. what will you or the factory normally be using?
- and how does one actually multi-color their fabrics? using paint and diy? or factory? or ..?

i'm interested to know more about prints, hope someone could help! please offer your email if you are the one who knows everything and can really solve my enquiries.

curious...
i'm jumping on the bandwagon and saying leave that dress as is...
it's lovely...and it looks great on you...

just wear a flat sandal and some wooden beads if you want to make it more casual...;)

 Don't worry, girls! I haven't touched the sleeves!!

Phew! I'm glad I checked before touching it. At least my instinct that my instinct was wrong was right. Make sense? Ha!

I'll leave it as is and look into some colored sashes (could be my first test on my new 'sewing machine for dummies'!). I like the idea of the jacket, too Chanel. It DOES resemble the same shape as your maternity dress

I'm intrigued by splitting it up too... that's a good idea. For now, I think I'll leave it as though. Thanks for the input :flower:

Ive fineally got a new digi cam after my old one broke so im going a bit mad posting pictures so here are some pictures of some things i have customised ... just ones that i can lay my hands on atm.

This is my twiggy top ... it stared out life as just a plain tee shirt then i stenciled this design onto it using fabric paint.

I used to have a velvet revolver tee shirt but I manged to loose it so I made a new one with a plain white tee shirt and I printed the picture onto iron on paper.

This was a boring pair of dkny jeans that were too long in the legs so i turned them into a skirt

This was a black tee then i ironed on a picture of andy warhol and put sequins around the edges

This is what I stenciled yesterday for my bf birthday close up of the lion and the shirt being worn, last pic. It took me 6 hours!! Because I only stenciled the face part, I used a toothpick to draw on the hairs around the face.

I used this method except I didn't use textile medium+acrylic paint (50/50). And my stencil wasn't on a piece of cardboard. I printed out the stencil on a regular paper, took my x-acto knife, or skip the regular paper and print it on the sticky backed plastic. Cut out all the black parts (these will become the black parts on the t) on the stencil. Peel off the backing and put clear plastic stencil on the t-shirt. Using a roller cover the stencil with paint. Let it dry. Peel off. Set the print according to instructions. I used a thin coat of Marabu Fun Liner Magic (it gets puffy after ironing but only if you have used a thick layer of paint). If you use a mix of textile medium and paint it's better to make 2-3 thin coats rather than one thick one - it will be less likley to start cracking. I haven't used paint because I haven't seen textile mediums in shops and you are suppoused to set the paint with ironing a towel soaked in vinegar over the print. Or throw it in the dryer. And that sounds like a lot of work but with Marabu I just iron the print for 10-60 sec and I'm done! But it's handwash only.

IMO heat transfers and iron-ons are crap. The heat transfers will fade massively and peel off and iron ons, just don't like them. :D

Silkscreening should be the best (as I've heard) but the supplies are very expencive.

Sorry if my English gets rough!

'flaunt the imperfection' i say!!... ;)

i like the lion print tee! it doesn't seem too hard to do and it came out nicely.

i just cleaned out my closet and have loads of clothes that i might try to customise and recycle. i've got a lot of time on my hands anyway, and a sewing machine that i'm trying to figure out.

craftster.org is another good forum site with sections on sewing and customising. i get ideas from them, too. they have the cutest featured projects. my favorites there have been an embroidered purse and a miniature snow scene inside an altoids tin.

okay, so i did it! nothing fancy, but i made a summer dress into a tank top. yay me!
