Daily Exercise

Wow, everyone is so active...

I did a good 45 minutes of DDR... I really need to get in shape....

The last couple months I've been really lazy. I'm trying to get back into the running groove.

nextnewface: I just started running a couple years ago. It was hard at first, but once I got into the routine, I really started to enjoy it. Endorphins!

jazzercise
half hour eleptical
soon an hour of weight training
and then another half hour of eleptical.

so like, ive been weight training all wrong for MONTHS and now my friend is teaching me how properly (been doing it for 2 weeks now) and im already seeing a HUGE difference. its amazing!!!!! (and slightly painful....)

For those who have busy schedules (like me), and don't have time for the gym, which would you prefer?

Jogging early morning, or joggine early evening? I can't decide which I rather do, because I'm a lazy bum in the morning, but towards the evening, I have lots of hw. :\
do it in the morning, you'll feel awake by the time you go to school. By the evening you wont care anymore

and the air smells better when theres no one around -_-

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get back into the gym. I am seriously feeling like I work 24-7, sitting down. I saw the back of my legs today and they look gross...like lumpy. I am in my late twenties and "used" to be so active and go to the gym, without even thinking about it. Now that it is getting cold out, I just want to sleep in on any time I have off.
I really want to get toned and know that running or cardio is going to help do that. I know it sounds like I am making excuses, but the gyms in NYC are so unbelievably crowded. I tried running on the streets ONCE, and got smacked on my bum, but someone on a bike.
I also suffered a breakdown of anxiety over a year ago, and that is when I completely stopped working out. When really, I should have stuck to it. So, secretly, and no one knows, I am worried I might faint at the gym, or have a panic attack. If anyone has had them, you know how AWFUL it feels and how real it feels...
Anyway, does anyone have a fun way to get some serious exercise? and help me get off my butt? I joined the self challenge online, and keep forgetting to check what I am supposed to be doing :-(

^ I totally understand what you're going through... I almost always get slight panick attacks when I go at the gym or something similar... never had them during ballet classes though... I think it's one of the only sports I don't get them... other than like snowboarding and stuff like that.

I'm not exactly very active either. I wish I could though but I hate going to my school's gym because everytime I do, I feel really anxious & stuff and panick, even if slightly. I'm a hypocondriac and it's really really stupid but I am afraid that if I work out too much (I know it's impossible but...) that my heart or lungs will give out or something... and that I won't be able to swallow properly...

anyway, I'd love to go running outside but it's gonna be winter pretty soon and there is NO WAY I'm going running when it's -30°C out.

So heh, I'm also looking for alternatives. I'd love to run but I don't know where I could do that. :s Anyone has suggestions?

Urban Rebounding class at the gym. (on mini trampolines)

How do you runners know how far you are running? Do you have to wear one of those distance measuring watches?

have you tried bring a cd/mp3 player? i really dont enjoy being around large amount of people also and ive found wearing big dj headphones when playing my music helps me ignore the fact that there are lots of people near me. (i used to get panic attacks from people chewing gum close by) now sometimes i even close my eyes while on the eleptical and just pretend im not at the gym at all! :flower:

start off slow and easy.
when i was 27 i stopped doing a lot of activities due to illness.
gained 30lbs!
couldn't even walk a block!
started off slow - just simple walking... walked 2 blocks, increased to 4.. increased to 1mile. ended up walking 2miles/day + uphill - enough to get me back into the swing of things.
added yoga then pilates.
all good now
:)
good luck!

Im just getting used to exercising again after a long (4 year almost) break. I have been going 3 times a week now for a few weeks. Great to see how active you guys are.

Today I ran for 20 minutes and did strength training and then lots of crunches and streches for 10 minutes.

dark princess- was it really , really hard?
It has been so long for me too. I really don't know how my body will react. I think I used to really push myself and don't think i will be doing that because of the panic..

Last nighti did half an hour (one episode of sex in the city to be exact) of running on my treadmill. i was doing 3.5 mph during the show and during commercials i went 5.5 mph. i'm so lazy in comparison to some of you, lol.

I went to the gym at 5.30 am again. I really like going in there early in the morning, I get so much energy!

^i LOVE working out in the morning... My gym is in the military section of my island, so around 8am all the military mom's come and work out after they drop their kids off at school, so I always try to get there before the mad "Mommas Rush" that happens.

I work out MWF from 6am to 8am in the gym, and Saturday and Sunday from 8pm to 10pm. Nice and empty, and I dont get stuck with a machine in front of the GOLF channel. so unmotivating.

usually 20 minutes warm up on the treadmill, fast walking, NEVER running. (terrible for your joints after many years) then 45 minutes on the Precor machine, sort of like an elliptical, but it has an uphill element to it. then 40 minutes on the bike, and then 15 minutes cool down on the treadmill (again, walking).

I find that if I break each section into 10 minute increments, i actually do them. I used to try to just do it, but I always skipped out early it seems. now i do it right each time.

My god you guys are soooooooooo active...are you all in shape and thin? i do 30 min-1 hour of the elliptical 3 times a week..thats all........i feel like im doing nothing compared to you
