Death by Chanel, or the dangers of heavy bags

i can only carry big bags..
i cant handle not being able to fit my wallet and a water bottle into a smaller bag.
i always like to have my essentials with me at all times, so bigger the better!

I love the title of this thread:lol:

I love big bags too! I try not to be a hoarding nomad with em tho because they do become a hassel to carry, pain! Just the essential wallet, keys, gum, make-up, water bottle, little tube of lotion and thats it.

The title is so dramatic .. I carry way too much in big bags because I always feel like I have to fill it with everything that I would possibly need .. Sometimes I feel like I'm carrying an entire house in there. :ninja: So now I try to use small bags or clutches because if foreces me to downsize and it also looks very chic! :)

I carry too much makeup as I rarely ever apply in public!

I only really need: house keys, wallet, cell phone and sunglasses at all times. Ideally I could also use a compact/lipstick, pen/agenda too... if I think too much, it gets out of hand. Sort of like packing for a trip. There's always something you think you can't do without.

I've been taking a hint from this thread and forcing myself to use a smaller handbag instead of a big one. Well...I always end up carrying more bags!

I have a huge leather bag that I use for school. I'm always carrying books, lunch + water, laptop and a chunky sweater. I have no idea what my bag weighs, but I do pilates very often and I've never had a sore back or neck pains

I carry usually:

Mascara
lip balm
tissue and other toiletries
a pen or two
book
eye glasses
hand lotion
cell
keys
wallet

My bag is huge I was kind of shocked when it finally arrived. When I get a new lap top for christmas it can definitely into it.

Interesting that carrying a heavy handbag has now been recognised as a health risk by Chiropractioners and a new range of trendy, luxury bags on wheels has been designed to combat the neck, back, shoulder and joint issues. See the article below

How heavy is your handbag?

By tiffanyanisette

When it comes to handbags, oversized is the on trend option at the moment. If you have invested in the seasons latest oversized hand bag, it would seem completely logical to fill it with all of your daily essentials including make up, phone, even a laptop. But have you ever stopped to think about how much your hand bag actually weights and the stress and strain caused by carrying it around with you?

Most of us are inseparable from our handbags and carry them with us every where. This means that our bodies are subjected to constant and cumulative stress from carrying our handbags. When you carry a heavy bag, your body will usually lean to one side to compensate (not a stylish look, no matter how stylish the bag), this bad posture can cause all sorts of other problems. As the body is a whole and interconnected system, strain in one area can also lead to problems in another area. Heavy handbags can cause back, neck, shoulder and joint pain, muscle spasms, sprains and even headaches.

In April this year a report by The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress published on Medical News Today cautioned woman that carrying heavy handbags can have significant health risks. Gerard W. Clum, D.C., president of Life Chiropractic College in West Hayward, Calif. recommends using a bag with two shoulder straps or pulling a carrying case with wheels.

The Tiffany Anisette Collection helps keep women of all ages and cultures, stylish and healthy as they keep up with the latest fashion trends. It is available online at www.tiffanyanisette.com.

I love this thread :D

I also used to carry probably around 10 kg daily, and up to 20+kg on bad days. As a uni student, I often had several books in there I needed for class/study, along with gym clothes, food and water. Most days I was too lazy to empty my bag, so I'd be carrying stuff with me from the day or week before.

To be honest, I feel like a bit of a superhero lugging stuff like that around. I'm young so I'd just think of it as a workout :) I can totally feel my abs doing what they were built to do. I do a lot of yoga and haven't had any back problems yet.

i feel better since i switch from leather to nylon. am using longchamp le planete and it is as light as feather compared to my muse.

i have a vintage chanel jumbo xl..it's gorgeous but either if you left it wide empy of you full it, it's so heavy..the chains are really a torture for my shoulder..:(

I too have chronic back/neck pain that restricts me from carrying heavy bags. So now, I always inquire about the weight of the bag I'm considering to purchase beforehand.
But that doesn't meant that I don't carry heavy bags.......On weekends my bags are not heavy, but on weekdays my bags weigh about 11 lbs from carrying:

eyeglasses+ the case
A4 sized documents
a case book
a bottle of water
lunch box (I don't like eating out everyday, so I bring my own)
small nylon prada cosmetic pouch that contains a mirror, a lipgloss and meds
a fur scarf in winter, light pashmenna shawl in summer
tissue
phone, ipod touch
small agenda and a pen
small men's wallet and extra card case
gloves
granola bars, candy and sweets
keys

My work bag is so heavy but I go from point A to point B, put it down on the ground whenever possible, and when I go to work, I leave my bag at my desk for the entire day so it's not as bad as lugging it around everywhere the entire day.
Unfortunately I can't scale down the goods I carry during workdays, and I have wrecked bags because of the weight I carry inside them.....so I had to resort to carrying heavy yet super durable bag so that I don't have to worry about replacing it in 6 months:yes:

My weekend bags however are a completely different story......I limit my content to just my wallet, my small nylon cosmetic pouch, keys and a bottle of water even when I'm taking public transit.

i love big/oversized bag. i tend to even out the size and the weight. if the size is big, i will go for the lightest bag-> canvas or balenciaga weekender RH(lightest leather bag ever)- i have a mahina XXL that I totally love but the bag itself is SO HEAVY :(
i dont bring everything with me though:
pens, lipstick, lotion, agenda, wallet..basic things

i love them too but after a day my shoulder hurts a lot because of the weight!

Yeah that's why my school made it compulsory to only purchase the school backpack which was tick approved for the spine or some crap and banned messagers & shoulder ones because they do ruin your shoulders/posture.

Like me I use to carry a messager bag and would only put it on my left side. Now my left shoulder is the only I can put weight on and I don't know how to explain it but its lope sided? no noticeably but If someone was to touch the line from my neck to shoulder they would feel more muscle than the right. Plus if I put anything on the right it would feel weird and just fall off.
