^^^ "Dreaming" isn't really a video-- more of a Top of the Pop lipsynching romp, isn't it? LOL
I get what you mean Jane. The spirit, the energy, the vibe of that particular place in time is so perfectly captured in that performance and the sound, I also adore it. The straightforward simplicity that is so rich in inspiration and reference in retrospect is so enchanting. Only wish that we have a HD-version of it. I feel the same way about Madonna's "Lucky Star" video; It came out at a time time when overblown, and overdesigned productions were all the rage in music videos-- from Michael Jackson to Duran Duran... and here was this funky disco dolly dressed in an all black ragtag of a wardrobe just doing her funky thing in a stark white room... I was 3 but I was mesmerized. It still remains my fav music video to this day.
I think Hedi's also been looking, and studying that Blondie gem for some time now, starting with his Dior Homme days when he reintroduced the "skinny" look, complete with shrunken blazers with the sleeves rolled up, little polos, and tight tight jeans with white kicks, and guys in shaggy blond hair, just like the boys bopping to Debbie here... And now in his latest show with a similar chrome structure with that French retro-electonic disco track, and even the video's art direction and editing is very 1982-looking.
