Life Ball BARBIE® DOLLS

An excerpt from Lifeball.org regarding these dolls:

The three Barbie® dolls are offered in a strictly limited edition for US$ 500.- each. By buying one of the Life Ball Barbie® dolls you help us support HIV+ and people suffering from AIDS, as the entire net proceeds will benefit different AIDS charity organisations.

Renowned companies and an army of volonteers donated what they could to realize this charity project.

So she represents life and this is why I feel so happy, proud and grateful to be in charge of her 99 outfit for the Vienna Life Ball.

We chose a vibrant orange fabric structured by black and fluo ribbons (and some 'lights' by SWAROVSKI) for celebrating this event of hope, generosity and fun. This dress was on the fashion runway last March in Paris.

"I was honoured that Barbie® and her boyfriend Ken, while touring through Europe, accepted my personal invitation to the Vivienne Westwood show in Paris. During my post-show interviews I noticed Barbie® entering backstage and I drew the interviews to a close in order to welcome her. Barbie® raved about the new collection and in the same breath kindly asked me if I would create an evening gown for her to wear for the next Life Ball in Vienna. We met the following day in my show-room and I presented her with my design sketch, material swathes and accessories. Barbie® then continued to explain her reasons for wanting me
to design a gown.

The organiser of the Life Ball contacted Barbie® at her Malibu home to discuss the possibility of working on a charity project with an international aspect. Barbie® and Ken remembered the Life Ball 96 that they had attended and recognised the value of this joyful AIDS charity so they decided on the following concept: 1000 limited edition Barbie® Doll will be released wearing the same style that Barbie herself will wear at the next Life Ball.

The proceeds from the sales of the Barbie® Dolls will be used to support Austrian AIDS organisations. As I was the designer of the Life Ball 97 show I wanted to make a further contribution to this charity project. I hope you will enjoy your rare collector Barbie®, designed exclusively by me."

the most recent dolls are pretty amazing, mostly because technology makes so many more looks possible and because of the new body mold. (i think those were first premiered with the Versace/Versus dolls, no?)

the Versace doll, i love, simply cause i loved that dress. it was very bold, sexy but also really beautiful and simple.
