^Exactly! There are great for collecting because of the details... It's even more exquisite in smaller scales.

Thanks for all the pics. Tow questions popped up my mind - is there a Chanel Barbie? And how much does a designer Barbie cost?

Forgot about this thread and since i have been collecting nearly my whole life, i thought i would post in here.
I own a few dolls posted here like, Versus, Juicy Couture (the classier Beverly Hills set), Kimora Lee Simmons (she is really beautiful in person lol) and i hope to get some of these new CB dolls.

The Christian Louboutin Barbie dolls, so exciting! The only thing that isn't cool is that he is saying that Barbie's ankles are too fat and that he is changing them to his standards, although i think he made this statement for publicity.

BARBIE BOY: Christian Louboutin is the latest designer geared to give Barbie a makeover, with three dolls he’s conceived top to toe due to be released over the coming months. Louboutin has even reshaped the dolls’ figures as he doesn’t find the classic Barbie’s morphology très flattering. “He found her ankles were too fat,” said a Louboutin spokeswoman, who revealed one of the dolls would be released in time for the Cannes International Film Festival. “They’re completely wild and even come with mini Louboutin boxes for the shoes,” she said.

Looks like the preview doll above is wearing the CB for Rodarte shoes!

I always wondered why there has never been a Chanel Barbie doll. Maybe Karl is waiting for the right moment to design one.

Collector/designer Barbie dolls prices can be expensive. They range from $50 and upwards really but Ebay is amazing if you want to get your hands on one for a good price ^_^

I got my first collector/designer Barbie (Versace Versus) back in 2006 on Ebay, deboxed but in amazing condition for only £15. B)

^ I would say normally around $70-$200, depends on the designers as well. Cynthia Rowley for example will cost less than Versace Barbie. From what I've read they will sell the 1st edition of Christian Louboutin Barbie for $150. But Barbie's prices depend heavily on demands. You can see on ebay, the prices fluctuate all the time.

thanks for this thread!

how come there are no jason wu pics here? i know he designed a lot of clothing for barbie (may be not officially...)

this thread better no reignite my obsession with barbie again :p

and yes, prices have fluctuated quite a bit for barbies in general. some of the older mackies used to run up to the $800+ range (retail was $200) but the prices have fell and remained on the lower end for many years now

^And i think Jason or maybe somebody else designs a lot of fashion royalty dolls.

^ Yeah, Jason Wu has his own range of stunning dolls called Fashion Royalty.

Those dolls are even more expensive than Barbie, which is why i only own 1 FR doll

Jason has never designed for Barbie, but i think she is an inspiration to him.

More news! :D

Doll Attic

We just learned that there will be a series of three Christian Louboutin dolls (and a shoe pack) coming out in a series. We will be carrying the Christian Louboutin Safari Doll,

According to Liz Grampp "She has new hair color, new custom skin tone, new face mold, and yes...new custom arched foot. So while there have been some fantastic sculpting adjustments made to create the most incredible new and exciting dolls, it's truly to bring the artistic vision to life."

This is certainly exciting news! We will update you as we hear more information. We do not have a photo of the Safari doll which is as of yet, but keep checking back as we have one of the series available for preorder.

Sounds so exciting!

funny how I was thinking of this the other day. I was wondering if they would ever team up with a designer and creating a clothing line for Barbie. like Rodarte for target, they could do Galliano for Barbie.

Imagine a Galliano Barbie. Especially a FW 09 Galliano Barbie!

I do love the Versace number though. The hair is so Donatella. lol

In her 50 years, Barbie managed to accumulate 1 billion pairs of shoes. When it came to picking her next pair, the iconic doll wanted to go to one of the hottest shoe designers around, so she chose Christian Louboutin.

Mattel, the maker of Barbie, has partnered with Louboutin for a multifaceted program under which the shoe designer will serve as a yearlong godfather to Barbie, not just rethinking her fashion wardrobe and physical attributes, but also art directing her in different lifelike situations.

The project includes the Barbie-pink, red-soled Louboutin shoes that premiered in Barbie’s birthday runway show during New York Fashion Week in February, a Barbie doll and accessories collection customized by the designer and a diary filled with images of Louboutin and Barbie as they explore the cobbler’s favorite things.

“Barbie has a long history of working with various designers and artists who use Barbie as a muse,” said Stephanie Cota, senior vice president of marketing of Barbie brands at Mattel. “It was a natural for Barbie, not only with her fashion heritage, but also because of her passion for shoes. She has a billion shoes and we needed to do something special for her shoe collection.”

Louboutin knew there were certain changes he wanted to make to his three customized dolls, which are inspired by Nefertiti and Marilyn Monroe.

“She needed great shoes, a thinner ankle and, to me, as I’m obsessed with feet, a foot more curved,” the designer said.

His views on Barbie’s ankles, expressed through a spokeswoman in a WWD Fashion Scoop on Monday, caused something of a media and blogosphere frenzy. Clarifying his point, Louboutin said he was thinking of the technical aspects of shoemaking.

“Barbie’s foot has always been shaped less ‘curvy’ than the rest of her perfect body,” he said. “I just added my little science to Barbie and I’ve been proud to serve her. But fat ankles she didn’t have, she just could have had thinner ankles. That’s all.

“My God, what a story,” he said, reacting to the controversy. “I apologize to my goddaughter [Barbie]. There has been a bit of confusion there, but it’s just the proof that Barbie has real serious fans.”

The three dolls, packaged in Louboutin shoe boxes, each come with four pairs of Barbie-size Louboutin heels. In December, Mattel will unveil Louboutin’s jewel thief-themed Barbie; in February, it will add a safari-themed Barbie, and for May, Louboutin designed a Barbie that goes to the Cannes Film Festival. The $150 dolls will be sold through BarbieCollector.com and at Net-a-porter.com, which is Mattel’s exclusive partner for this project and will be selling dolls for the first time. In September, both sites also will offer a Christian Louboutin Barbie shoe collection of 12 pairs for $40 a set.

The diary, which comes with the jewel thief Barbie and is also sold separately for $40, is titled “My Year in Paris With Christian Louboutin.” Launching in December, it features photos of the doll shopping with Louboutin in his boutique, on a journey down the Nile, performing at the Moulin Rouge and in a cafe with a male doll that is decidedly not Ken.

“I will have to go with no comment,” Cota said of the non-Ken. “He is a boy who is a friend and not necessarily a boyfriend. As a rule, we don’t comment on Barbie and Ken’s personal life, but I can tell you they are definitely talking and they’re friendly.”
