Designer clothes for children.

Hi Peeps,

As a young mother, i was wondering what were your opinion on Children's designer clothes etc.

I have a soon-2-B 6 year old girl, she is very witty, pretty and loves clothes and dressing up in stylish clothes, which i happily go along with. I think i mentioned that i wanted to buy her a designerbag, possibly small Burberry rucksak/messenger bag.

What do you guys think about children and designer clothes?

I get a bti scared when I see children wearing Designer Logos, I mean i dount think children ened to flash logos yet. But other than that i think its great for kids to have desigenr clothes if you have th e$$

I say let them be actual children for as long as possible. I know from being a little person for many years that dressing up in someone elses, much bigger and more glamorous clothes, is far more fun than something designer and fitting of your own. If you are one of those lovely mothers however who they will be proud to shop with and admit to offsprung, than I think you will have plenty of time to dress her(?) up as your favourite disco dolly. But personally, I would let that time stay in the distance until she fully understood the value of something costly. Besides, children grow ever so fast in every meaning of the word: It won't be that long until they can by their own labels and leave the roost and for the time being they will race through sizes so that little to no value will be gained from a particular item in a particular size.

I say, buy the little girlies lipstick and fairy wings in assorted colours and watch as they paint themselves, and probably the walls, up.

If you don't mind shelling out a lot of money for clothes that will eventually be ice cream-stained and/or too small for your rapidly growing youngster, then, sure, buy the kid designer clothes.

i was in gucci the other week and this baby couldnt have been more than 4 months old.....her mum was holding it on the counter while the sales red put some mini gucci shoes on her

i hope her mum realises they'll only fit for about 6 weeks

Go for it! As long as you're raising your child with great values, and I'm sure you are, designer clothes won't hurt. Your daughter deserves the most sophisticated things, and be sure to teach her the history of the pieces. Clothes don't hurt kids, materialism does, but logos and snobbiness don't go hand in hand. You seem like a stylish mom who's raising her daughter to be stylish too.

I'm a mommy of a 6 yr old, and I buy her whatever I feel she looks comfortable, HIP and awesome in.. I don't really look for labels, however I have been known to do that as well... My princess always looks incredible.

All my children are humble characters, they earn things and know the value of money, except the younger ones. My children, thankfully aren't obsessed with designer clothes, my youngest daughter however, loves dressing up, as long as the clothes is very girly and pretty she will love it. The only things i tend to spend a little bit more money on would be coats and accessories, and special occasion outfits and footwear. The accessories i know will last for a good while.

I wouldn't buy logo clothes for my young daughter/son because they will outdate eventually and don't always look nice(a bit gansterish/hiphopish) . I cant say that i wouldn't buy clothes from designers such as Gucci, because i probably would if it was reduced and suitable for my child. Yesterday i took my 9 year old son shopping in Croydon, London, and saw this young girl carrying a Louis Vuitton small Alma bag, when i looked at her she made sure that the bag was in view for me to see, i really looked at her because i was surprised, she couldn't have been any older than 10 years old, it just looked so odd . I had never seen any child of that age or younger carrying designer pieces. Guess its something i'll get used to seeing . I dont have a problem with people buying designer clothes for their children, because i love unusual designer clothes, e.g Toff Togs, Miniman etc, its what suits each persons lifestyle and a matter of personal choice

As long as your child doesn't become spoiled into expecting expensive clothes and accessories, then dress her however you want!

I was in Holt Renfrew the other week, and there was this girl who was about 8 years old (ten at the absolute most) all decked out in gucci/chanel carrying a bunch of shopping bags (viutton, bvlgari, chanel, gucci are the ones that i remember) with two much older guys (~18-20 years old) that were all over her... It was so damn bizarre. I was never a fan of prepubescent children covered from head to toe in that. Personally, it scares me... Baby GAP is bad enough, let's end it there!

at that age, they're too young to understand the whole name brand thing anyway, so why not?
