"Bad chemical reaction to alcohol" does not make you say anti-semetic remarks.

His actions cannot be justified just because he was drunk. Stop defending him and making excuses for him.

Alcohol doesn't just SUDDENLY make a person say such vile things. I love Hitler and you should die? Please.

alcohol makes people more uninhibited so someone who´s PC in front of everybody could show their true character while drunk.
on the other hand, insulting someone base on race or personal appearance is so easy cause you know that it will hurt that person so much more. but it doesn´t mean you actually believe in the insult.
If people who actually know him are defending him, I guess they´re doing it for a reason.

....

its not established if he is a neo nazi or he said it cos he was provoked and drunk..... and stupid. and i am NOT saying this only to defend him, i strongly believe in good in people.

And even when we're sobre, we don't mean everything we say.

Honestly, I rarely hear people insult based on character. A person's "ultimate character" is rarely the point of an insult. He doesn't even know these people very well, what's he going to say about their character? Of course religion is not the best thing to insult someone about, but that doesn't make it any less likely that he was just singling out that person in particular. Maybe he was working on any basis he had. Maybe he can't think of a better insult. I'm not saying he was right, but it's just not the way to tell if he's racist or not.

And if Galliano actually feels this way behind closed doors, that's a pity, but it's for him to know and does not concern us as long he does not try to take it further.

"Bad chemical reaction"? Seriously, this is getting quite ridiculous. That sounds if he'd drank a magical potion that made him a completely different person - it's not "The strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde "

well we all have dark sides....
it's not "The strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde "

maybe it is.... the case of dr jekyll and mr hide is not just an imagination, it symbolizes the other side of every person.

Good point, but in this case that would mean that there is this bad side in John Galliano - the alcohol didn't create his mindset but only brought it up.

^i do agree.... *edited* but the more i read about this mess the more i am convinced this was all just that - a mess.

he got fired, and that is punishment enough. he should be forgiven. and he should apologize. like for real with cameras and live coverage, so people can see if he is sincere and for real.

French sources suggested than tens of thousands of French Jews voted for the FN. Others suggested the figure was even higher.

:shock::shock::shock:

ANYWAY on Sunday there was nothing and today monday there was S/S 2011 DIOR ads everywhere in Paris. And by everywhere I mean everywhere. I don't know if it is the right time to do so or...? What do you think ?

Also, in a lot of french newspapers are doing worplays around the situation right now

"La collection va faire Führer"
"Welcom to the facho-week"

Most of the people who publicly defended him, like journalists, say the video does not show the Galliano THEY know. It's worth pointing out since many of those who publicly "defended" him pitied him and wished he'd get help.... which in turn is them assuming he's mentally unstable.

Which is that, many people are assuming things and won't concentrate on the facts at hand; which goes in both sides of the debate.

Is he a racist? We don't know, but what he said was racist and extremely offensive.
Is he mentally ill or unstable? We don't know, because all we saw was him drunk.

The fact is, he said something offensive. People saying he should be condemned as a racist are just as bad as those who try to justify or lessen his actions by stating he was provoked, drunk, or mentally ill. It just feels like this whole thread have been going around in circles.

He can't be a neo-nazi given his "way of life". The "I love Hitler" statement was nothing but over-the-top and rather a provocation-wappon than an extract of his inner life.
I mean... Words like "hate" and "love" are rarely used correctly.

So because we rarely use LOVE correctly, we can all say WE LOVE HITLER and it could absolutely mean nothing and have no consequences.

We should start hollering it then since we rarely mean what we say anyways.

Nice to know I can say vile things and not have it be a reflection of my inner life. I'm liberated. Thank you.

It's either the genius or the gin that led you to say it.

End of the line

This has been, for the most part, a good discussion. Thank you to all the members who have contributed thoughtful posts while remaining respectful of opposing viewpoints.

At the moment, it seems there is no news, and as has been pointed out, we seem to be going in circles. More to the point, there seems to be an increase in disrespectful posts.

Therefore, we are closing the thread for the time being. Again, thank you to all who made thoughtful contributions. :flower:

As the Galliano rumour thread has been shut, I can't find anywhere but here appropriate to post this interview with Galliano's lawyer: http://www.graziadaily.co.uk/fashio...ew-with-stephane-zerbib--gallianos-lawyer.htm

JOHN GALLIANO TRIAL: Latest
Updated Friday 11 March 08:56am: The man at the centre of the trial against John Galliano has spoken out in the designer's defence.

"For me it was a simple bar dispute," Philipe Virgitti - who along with his girlfriend Geraldine Bloch accused Galliano of using racist insults towards them - said. "We were having a beer when he sat beside us. He got aggressive, turned to my friend and said 'Your voice is annoying me, you're speaking too loudly'."

Asked if he had used anti-Semitic language, Virgitti answered, "Yes, although I'm not convinced now that he really meant them. I don't think he is racist or anti-Semitic. I just think he's very ill."

"John Galliano does not deserve this," Virgitti added, the Times reports. "I would like Mr Galliano to benefit from this unhappy story by drinking a little less and getting back to making the dresses and shows that he did so well."
