Designer Rain Boots - Thoughts?

urban outfitters, delias, alloy.... all did colorful printed wellies last year. Are they just getting popular in the older crowd now? I always see younger girls wearing them... interesting. reverse fashion filtering.

I liked them at first, but now I'm sick of them. Here's the sad part - I've never even seen anyone wearing them, so I could still get away with it...

I'd still rather them charge $100, though. Would you be happy paying more than that, because its pure profit - those kinds of boots cost less than $10 to make - infact probably nearer $3.

I remember seeing some Chanel Rainboots in Bergdorfs a few years ago - $250.

They were what we call 'off the shelf' (a style/designed owned by a factory that any brand can buy), with Chanel logos stuck on the back. The Pucci are 'off the shelf too', with a Pucci printed lining but at least the Marc Jacobs are his own design.

Rainboots are becoming popular in the UK, mostly because we have a lot of music festivals in the countryside in the summer and good weather isn't always guaranteed.

I had a pair for the Glastonbury festival (vintage heeled ones - quite foxy!), they saved me because once it rained the mud was about six inches deep.

I wasn't alone in deciding to wear rainboots - check this link. :innocent:

$3 - $10 to make - $100 retail price? That's really disgusting. :(

I love wellies and would really like a pair, but I am not willing to pay $100 for them.

Hey kids! Thats designer mark-ups for you! :innocent:

[cynical mode]
those advertising campaings are expensive you know-----gotta pay for them somehow, then theres the salaries, the swanky design studio in Milan, and how can I forget the shareholders ;) [/cynical mode]

There is a line and Pucci has just crossed it...they are foul.

What do you wear w/ rain boots? Over jeans?

personally I would wear them with a denim cut off mini or another mini with tights or with a skinny pair of jeans.

I would not wear them but I think with black tights and a little black dress, it could be sort of mod and fun.

I really can't imagine them with anything other than black since they're such a focal point.

I'd only wear 'em in town if it was snowing.

The last big festival of the year was this weekend. It rained. Bring on the printed wellies again! :flower:

That's nothing. Think about all that 100% cotton Dior Homme stuff that costs mere dollars to make that they sell for hundreds or even thousands. And canvas Dior belts that sell for $325. Canvas, for Christ's sake!

Oh, how silly of me, there's some metal on there, too...

Pucci had a much cuter pair last season that I remember seeing in Neiman Marcus, but I'm kind of drawn to Marc Jacobs' version with that big 4" heel, but I don't think many people could pull those off, ha.

I love the colorful print rainboot trend. I was around kinda last year but I feel like it's becoming really big this season. As a guy (and because I'm a self-confessed label wh*re) I have my eyes on the Burberry plaid ones, I need something to replace my Uggs this season after all. It is kind of funny though that the Burberry ones are $125, you'd think Pucci's would cost more than Burberry's.

i like them, but they are too tall. they go up to the knee, i'd like them more if they were ankle or mid calf.
