Designers Switching Houses & Moving to New Brands

I’ve heard about the Virgil rumor but i’ve also heard that Nicolas could do the menswear and renew his contract. Ahh those rumors!

About Karl, seriously for a 84 years old man I don’t find him fragile at all. Yes it’s almost heartbreaking to see him age because for a longtime he was kinda ageless but he manages to go to Chanel studio everyday.

I’ll judge how he looks with his beard tomorrow.

About the replacement... It’s interesting that Virginie Viard has not been mentionned ever. She has been by Karl’s side for more than 3 decades. She is the director of the studio, knows the house like no one else, is responsible for the precollections.

Phoebe lives in London, Hedi lives in LA. Chanel cannot relocate a studio outside of Paris with Couture being that such an important part of the house.

I mean at this point, Hedi is out of the equation...

^ I think with Virginie they would end up in a same kind of situation what happened at Dior with Gaytten, or even at Lanvin with Bouchra. She would most probably make nice feminine collections that are respectable of the house and the look Karl has been doing lately, but in the end people would be yawning at it and say "Nice, but I prefer Karl. When will they announce the new creative director?". It would not start a new chapter, which is what they will eventually need. I think Phoebe or Alber would be the best choices out of the big names.

^^
Yes true...
Alber...I don’t see him there. He is not versatile enough. At Chanel, people stays for a longtime (not just the designer) and while Alber is great, he couldn’t do it for more than 5 years for me.

For a longtime I wanted Nicolas to do it because of his versatility.

Anyway, Karl looks great. Apparently he has done acupuncture. He is less stiff than he has been last year. He can do it for another 2 years at least...

Since almost none of the recent rumors have materialized as true I take this with a grain of salt, but recently heard Virgil will replace Kim Jones at LV and Nicolas is not too happy with the choice.
This would be an absolute nightmare. Let's hope this is false!

Virgil is not a designer.

He is a stylist and not even a good one. He's just the right person at the right dire time in fashion.

I almost hope he goes to Nina Ricci and the brand deserves whatever happens if this rumor is true.

I'm excited for Kim to potentially be going to Dior, but I'm not keen on the idea of Virgil going to Vuitton. I'd prefer Lucas, or someone that Ghesquiere has suggested.
According to sources, Kim Jones will take up the plum design role, two months after exiting as Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director, and reuniting him with Beccari, who had worked with the English designer when he was the No. 2 executive at Vuitton.

The same sources said Jones would present his first collection for Dior Homme in June.
Vuitton men’s wear will also attract attention and buzz when it discloses its designer change. Sources said the house has held discussions with Off-White’s Virgil Abloh, Lanvin’s Lucas Ossendrijver and candidates put forth by Nicolas Ghesquière, Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collections.

I would looooove for Lucas to takeover Vuitton or the person who did Margiela menswear before Galliano.
Virgil is just not for this. Just give him a collab and voila. He doesn't know what he is about as a designer so, he better concentrate on his brand or the new owners of Lanvin can give him Lanvin. Nobody cares about this brand anymore.

Olivier Lapidus is apparently out of Lanvin. More to follow.

God, Virgil at Vuitton sounds like a nightmare! Is it because of his streetwear sensibility? Bad idea!! Agree with Lola, his own brand is an incoherent mess. Put out a decent collection first before applying for jobs. I wonder who NG wants at LV, because if you ask me Kim Jones was far more effective and impacting than him.

I still care about Lanvin though.....
