Designers Switching Houses & Moving to New Brands

Really? I’ve never seen anyone younger that 50+ buying dior recently. If younger people do buy it it’s a saddle / infamous carryover pieces. The MGC nonsense can be seen on influencers and no more than that
As I always say, the environment we are in is never totally representative of what’s going all over the world.
When I travel, I see a lot of young people at Dior. And I’m always surprised because the price point, while decent compared to Chanel for example, is quite disuasive but also the styles are very conventional.
But a lot of young and not so young loves that classic style.

Delphine wanted it...and JWA agreed to leave Loewe too (what would happen if he said no?)...im not sure if Dior was his dream or is it just for power/cv/money....

they just needed and excuse to get rid of MG....maybe they didn't like her....
You don’t realize after so many years that you don’t like someone lol.
Maybe MGC is also tired of the back and forth between Italy and France.

But regarding the change, you got to be blind and deaf to not realize the shift happening in the industry regarding the creative directors and the impact it may have on fashion.

To push the consumerism and reignite the Mode Machine, you needs so fresh blood or people who aren’t willing to play safe. And I think for the big machines ( Chanel, Vuitton, Dior), it makes sense.
The intermediary brands like Tom Ford, Givenchy will also re-enter the arena.

I’m so curious however to see how Prada will react to that. MiuMiu has had a great success that has kind of overshadowed the fact that Prada is quite weak from a creative and leading voice POV.

Regarding Celine and Loewe, I think the brands needs to be institutionalized. We will see if they indeed do that or change things again.

I do agree..i see young like 20 but also not so young too...

Dior in comparison to Loewe is a mammoth, a giant, and a designers dream, I would say. At this level of his career, what happens in his cv is so important, it’s almost a pinnacle. I’d say he got this offer and took the chance because something like that might never happen again. Also, it’s no news that Dior is swimming in money and has an unlimited budget so I think it’s only natural JW didn’t think twice about this move. I also wonder where Mary Grace will go? I hope we won’t see MISS FENDI graffiti shirts…..

Current Dior? Classic? Style? Not so sure. Your message reminded that I have indeed seen numerous nouveau riche in dior and it was scary that someone would spend that much on that

i was on red book and they said the Hedi/Kering falling out is LVMH propaganda and Kering loves Hedi the most out of anyone actually.

They also let me know it is not true that Hedi only casts skinny male models - he casts skinny women too.

After the LAWSUITS? 😭

Regarding JWA at Dior, the stuff in store are rather nice, much more interesting than whatever’s going on at a typical Dior store so that’s an improvement for me.

I know people don't like her they don't talk about her in a good light but I enjoy designers with a lot of know how and with a lot of talent and can keep a nice balance between creativity and sellability. She is not John, but she's a very good designer very good at couture. Never overblown always straight to the woman straight to the buyer and her women always look sophisticated.

While that being said a change is necessary. I'm a big fan of Karl Chanel. If you watch or look at a lot of fashion shows like I do and just look over his career it's amazing how he changed at the right time always. These designers have a hard time with change and changing their style. That is Maria's downfall I don't know if it's her or the bosses but there is a problem there. Same thing with Alessandro, he couldn't reinvent his style at Gucci so they moved into Valentino and well you see more on the same but I like Valentino now. Same thing with PP at Valentino very hard to change the style but the older designers that I grew up watching were very good at changing their style before it got stale. Alexander McQueen was the king of it. Every season was completely different he was a complete visionary and artist.
