YOU are MR. JACKSON the KING OF POP???:woot: :woot: :woot:

What the f*ck?

I don't get this...

If this is a coincidence, it's too weird but I love Michael Jackson and I always use that same Elizabeth Taylor quote you used to describe him. This is f*cked.

Haha, well said Winston! But what of the "friendster" population?

LOL that's like the Asian recently-graduated-from-college scene who have just graduated from A/X :p

Actually I could probably be described as a bit of an 'indie kid', I hang around in those sort of clubs, listen to that kind of music etc. From the moving show on the Dior site, it doesn't look to me as if he has disregarded that influence.
Firstly, the music, it's by an indie band, Eight Legs, it's not up-beat, as in previous collections, the lyrics are quite sombre too. This obviously reflects Slimane's melancholy, but I think this current mood could be influenced by moody bands etc., provoking him to question various aspects of life etc. Secondly, the biggest 'indie' band in the world, The Killers, are always trying to capture a formal 'Rat Pack' swagger, the lead singer is a big Slimane fan. It seems as if Slimane is pushing that look further than just a swanky blazer and patent shoes. I think Slimane is hoping to push rock n roll into a more formal, elegant style of dress that, perhaps, reflects the music he's recently been listening to.

Hey hey hey, me and a majority of my friends are on there!!

Lols, it's true though, most of the friendster crowd (at least what I can gather from the people I know who are who wast copious amounts of time with it... myself included), would have to be the vancouver/tdot university clubbing crowd. and yes, A/X and/or D&G are the two labels you're bound to find with that crowd!

i think its quite clear what the lyrics are really saying..i dont find them vague...but i would suggest reading between the lines.

"i've been here before...." returning to original asthetic/form

"...something in my brain, that explains the way i behave"..or behaved. past collections

"wish we hadnt changed...wish we'd stayed the same.."

"i know i've changed.." admitting through lyrics

"at the end of the day it makes no difference what i say, we both know that you will always get your way" maybe a reference to the pressure hedis getting to make changes, and stop all the personal influence.

"we both know i have nothing left to give..." possible connection to YSL rumors...? or the fact that he couldnt push more into this, 'indie'-esque deal with fabrics.

also.. some things being said here i think are being misconstrude. just because hedi used good music for his show, or what some of you (like the above quote) would call "indie" music..does not mean he hasnt changed. What, does he need classical tunes now to go with the suits?..no. This is about the clothing Matt s noone has asked hedi to change his ipod hits.

and as far as "rat pack swagger" the killers( )..are drawing influence from past bands, or artist, who used fine tailoring instead of dirty shirts with beer stains. bowie anyone?..prince maybe?

hedi cant "push" rock n roll to a more formal, elegant style. Its already been done. he just happens to like it, but i dont think this show was saying..."ok rock boys, throw off the pete hats, and how bout' a suit with that bass..yeah yeah?:brows: " no.

again...my opinion.^_^

Agreed, this post was very well written.

And no worries pillarist I'm guilty by association as well since I'm also registered on Friendster...I never use it for its formal purposes though (only have like 7 friends, one is some model who accepts requests from everyone the other is a school i used to go to ), basically on there for STALKING!!!! :brows: B)

This is a really beautiful song btw...probably the best ever used for a Dior show. The subliminal messages by Hedi aside, I really feel the lyrics speak to what's going on in my life at this very moment. Amazing.

i like the new song, but the rakes tune  FTW
just saw the vid. they could have done a better job, you can hardly see anything. yep, that was the look on me face throughout most of it, wtf is going on in there. how do i zoom in?

So, tell me, where can I find info on the band? Did they make a record?
I, for one, loved the song. And it was cool hearing it played loud in that dark tennis hall with the pillar of fire, and everything.
There was a lot of people dancing in the audience too.

they do indeed have a myspace http://www.myspace.com/eightlegs and their page offers 3 free tracks to download (including the album version of "these grey days")..which is kinda cool considering its myspace and all:sick: ...

but if you want even more information on them...just check out their (old name) but current website : http://www.superheroes-online.co.uk

I've got mixed feelings about collection.

A return to tailoring and YSL-esque 'Le Smoking' was a smart move but I was really disappointed to see what I think is a formulaic and unispired collection. Every 'look' is almost identical. Imagine flicking through the look book - what's different from one page to the next? How many variations of a black suit should you show on the runway, how many black suits can a guy own?

Hedi presented a look for one occassion only - the opera or some ludicrously fancy event. What I liked about previous DH collections, which women's wear designers always do better than men's, is that there was a variety of sharply tailored suits and evening wear along with jeans, knitwear and more every-day wearable pieces. I think there's a role for both of these in both a show and a collection. After all, a designer should be able to cater for different occassions and events. I think the past two DH winter collections did this really well. Would have been great to see some new accessories too. Past collections did this really well - belts, armwarmers etc.

That said, I don't think a show consisting entirely of evening suits and white shirts would be a problem if each look was more original or inspired - lapels, embroidery, trimmings, more interesting cuts could all have been tampered with. Solitaire has been mentioned a few times in this thread and Hedi really should thought back to his state of mind then when putting this collection together. Not to rehash ideas but to have fun (despite his melancholy mood) designing clothes that were different and daring.

Things I particilarly don't like about the new collections are the baggy trousers, the cardigan everyone is raving about (it looks like Karl Lagerfeld for H&M), the jeans (which just cheap and tacky like a D&G 80's reject) and the
cropped jackets though - Hedi should have been left well alone after the disasterous summer collection.

To sum up, I'm disappointed because I don't see anything I'd wear bar a shirt and one suit which I'd only have the opportunity to wear about three times a year. I am relieved he left rock behind though. I love the skinny jeans, leather bombers but have them and don't need any more. He totally exhausted rock in the Doherty disaster that was the summer collection. I really hope Hedi doesn't desert DH just yet. I think he's hugely talented and capable of coming back with an inspired, innovative collection that incorporates both his YSL roots and skilful tailoring along with more casual, every day pieces.

where to start, where to start...

lets begin with the numerous contradictions you just posted, and clearly a lack of research/knowledge of dior homme let alone hedi slimane.

unoriginal and identical you say?..i suggest you re-look at those pieces in detail view before you make such a statement.

and clearly this was a formal collection..COLLECTION..so yes, in collections most times looks do share similarities :innocent:

but there was a wide variety of pieces shown!...and as somone said (and i think he even posted photos to give examples) the whole looks themselves may not be wearable on the street, but the pieces matched with something less "formal/elegant" could easily be pulled off, by somone who usually can pull off a dior homme ensemble

but im confused because you called his previous seasons "disasterous" but then you say you can only see yourself buying a shirt from this collection. well, thats funny..because we all know the last few seasons had tons of shirts to choose from, and all the little "accesories" you so badly desire. so it makes me think..I guess this look/season is going to be a bit more tricky to copy huh?

And as far as womenswear designers doing it "better" than mens. I dont even want to comment on that, because it makes me so irritated to hear such a thing..especially here on the forum. but i guess you're a bit pre-mature
to all this because clearly menswear has restrictions. we cant possibly wear as much as a female, or have as much variety as them. But if there is one designer who is known for trying to change that and push the bounderies a bit more its HEDI SLIMANE! ..the one person you're directing that ignorant comment to...

i dont understand how you can use solitaire as a reference, but yet find nothing in this collection for you to "wear"...most boys/men who spend thousands of $ on suits made my amazing designers, dont only wear them 3 times a year...like a tFS leader said, this collection is for people who actually have important parties and social occasions to attend to. on a normal basis.

And since you only wear a suit 3 times a year..I suggest saving your money, and just go with the wedding rental, instead of trying to out do the other guest.

pointless. just like your post.

And incase you didnt know...

All the jackets and stitching were/was done by hand. as mentioned before, haute couture for men. very technical.

I'm still not yet decided on what to make of this collection.

After seeing the runway show, I can definitely agree with everyone that it was a beautiful show. Everything was darkly gothic and romantic that reminded me of Phantom of the Opera.

After seeing the closeup photos of each outfit as worn on the runway, I just got to be a bit confused in terms of what Hedi wants us to do with this collection.

Typically what I've seen from designers is full "looks" and styling on the runway. This has always been (in my interpretation), how the designer sees their vision and wants their clothes projected that season.

With Hedi's completely super-formal collection (pretty much purely black-tie), I'm confused as to what he "wants". Sure we can deconstruct it and take the dress shirt here... the black dress pants there... maybe even a coat or two, but what of the rest?

Pretty much no one attends enough black tie events to warrant large DH purchases this coming fall. Of course I can see someone wearing one of the coats with dress shirt and jeans, but what of that "crazy" bow tie, the smallish bow ties, the spats, and... the cummerbund? Are these all pretty much worthless (oh, sorry... I mean collectors items) accessories?

Perhaps I'm just used to Hedi's runway shows and collections as suggestions for looks people can base their purchases off of for daily wear. Even such borderline-haute collections like Luster had easily wearable outfits in it. So what are we to do with what was shown on the runway? I'm sure what hits stores will be a bit different, with some various tees and things showing up, but I just can't tell at this point. All collections up to now, at least you had an idea.

All in all, a bittersweet collection so far. A return to the monochromatic which made Hedi famous, but full of not easily wearable pieces and looks that are just too-formal.

Some may argue that they'd wear the look, the various accessories or even the cummerbund with their regular wear, but I just don't think it would look right. I prefer to buy designer and have those designs work FOR me. That is, don't have the clothes wear you, but you wear the clothes. Something like that crazy bow tie and a cummerbund just makes you look like you're trying to hard to be a fashionista. I love the subdued elegance. When the design isn't so in-your-face so that people walk by and say "OH, he's wearing that Dior thing".

Just my tuppence.

Cavemen did All their stitching by hand. You probably make a very good defence of Hedi, but as the saying goes 'Don't believe the hype'...
