Dior Homme F/W 07.08 Paris

1.Is there someone who had see the show?

do they do after show party..who were invited.pete -kate?
littl'ans?

2.there is so much new models.

i can't see :is there Chriss ullyath?

ok so wow this discussion about the race vs fashion has totally gone on wrong tracks..there is too many "online philosophers" here sounding so...well maybe better not to say what.......
i think if you wanna comment the models, there are specific topics in the fashion spot to do that. but since you started it, ill throw my spoon in the soup too. i think in general some of the models on this show were too manly for dior homme. doesnt matter if they are black/white/yellow whatever....and few of the hair cuts were just too jock for me..

so about the collection......i like some of the pieces, and could consider myself buying them for me (yes im a girl).. especially the jackets. not so keen on the harem looking pants..i like the colors a lot.. grey, black with touch of brighter colors here and there. nice..i like the long sleeves sticking out (something ive done many years before haha)..i like the messy yet put together looks...at least something different from dh, yet keeping the slim signature figure :)

So, I'm liking the harem pants a lot right now, but how do you wear them? Wouldn't they look awkward with most clothes?

If you are forward thinking enough to appreciate Hedi exploring the construct of gender then I'd have thought you'd have been able to look beyond the thinking (I paraphrase as I can't remember exactly) that mods and goths are white so the models ought to reflect this.

let talk about this collection!
thanxx dizzytacks to remind us .... enough about race ..let change the future ... came in this world to change it and so is fashion not about the perfect body or the perfect skin...just to be glamourous and faboulous

I think this is looking quite desperate, seen as a collection in it's entirety.

the layering and the mix and match of colours and patterns doesn't work for me at dior, it's by far too slick and clean to look believably 'grungy'.

i also don't think there's any news to take out from here except from a couple showpieces that in the end, noone is going to buy. the formula is still classic (and commercial) dior homme: peacoats in drap de laine, trenches, the inevitable saharienne and the leather blouson. in a palette of black, grey melange, beige, antracite.

i doubt that the quality has gone down as far as to say that you would desperately need a second of basically the same item you already bought a couple seasons ago.

So you didn't like the collection tricotin? i really hoped you could be by my side at least saying it's a well balanced effort from Monsieur Slimane....

I love the casual wear stuff, like the boots, sweaters, and pants. hate the suits and big chunky scarf.. !
my favorite  :

Yes. Perhaps 'unconvincing' is the word. Low expectations depressed by previous poor seasons can make even an average collection seem like a return to form. A false impression if ever there was one.

As for quality, we'll just have to wait and see what comes out in the stores. The downtrend has been obvious for years and I'm not sure that there has been an improvement, even if it appears to be very marginally improved on the runway. The cleaniness you mention in particular indicates a low volume of man-hours involved in producing any particular piece (the 'cleaner' a piece, the easier it is to manufacture - cf. a pair of destroyed jeans from Strip). This lack of sophisticated detail is what has sunk and will continue to sink Dior for the foreseeable future if the focus isn't returned to the ultraluxe couturesque feel prior to 2005.

Unfortunately, the commercial strategy pursued by Dior - to broaden the label's appeal and price in a greater number of young people with lesser buying power - makes this unlikely.

I agree. It seems there's a long way back to pieces such as the Napoleon jacket, which was actually, if Dior Homme has ever been, demi-couture. Suzy Menkes appeared taken by the trademark trouser of this collection, which I am too. But when I think back on my shopping list from the Luster collection, which exceeded two pages - this being a wish list - and compare it with what I want to buy from this collection, I see a clear, negative development in Slimane's ability to create 'dream pieces'. Dior Homme used to our - us being the boys - Chanel or Balenciaga but it seems there's not a lot of demi-couture to dream of anylonger.

I really, truly believe that Burberry Prorsum can become 'the new Dior' - as a figure of speech - and the aw0708 collection was more than good. But Bailey needs to make it more fashion. He's certainly got his styling right for it. Burberry has so much potential and people are starting to pick up on it in the menswear area as well.

If Dior Homme is being written off at this point, it shall be interesting to see which house people will go to for those special, demi-couture-like pieces. Jean-Pierre Braganza for Givenchy is another possibility.

i was really trying to see your point but " less grungy" and sleek and commercial are words that really work for me for dior!! :flower:

i love how Chanel his latest collections have been looking... if there was ever a men main line chez Chanel, this is how it should look like, and slimane should be on top of it!!:D

worst collection i've seen from hedi...... the shoes/boots are beyond hideous and i only liked the classic stuff like the coats/trenches/some jackets, but that's sad cause there always there.

Playing around with a lot of gold lurex trim, zippers and braiding is not necessarily my perception of what couture is all about.

wow... so many comments abt DH, as always... as long as it touches people, I think it's still a good show...Suzy yokes at the show? u dunno how many time did i yoke at Number Nin(e) and Sonia Rykiel...

I think, I'm liking it more and more, esp. after watching it few more times and after the live shows @ vogue.co.uk. It's always nice too see "evolvement", instead of stuck in a rug. I'm sorry to hear some of you r feeling "predictable", "boring", "no change", however, I think Dior aesthetic or french fashion for that matter is actually about "ALLURE" more than drastic, revolutionary changes, that, as a base, and then to develope, I guess...I couldn't agree more to what BerlinRocks said about Pilati, who I find truely disappointing season after season in the last year, esp in YSL MRTW, soo freakin' old, an old kinda allure, definitely not a young sexy cool guy let's say, gonna give him up totally and focus back to DH now, I've never been disappointed by Hedi at such.

I think this is a way better season than s/s07, which I initially didn't like at all but find lovely seperate pieces at shop lately however. If he keeps doing skinny pants, i think many of u'd disagree too. Many of us can so predict that he's gonna change the silhouette this time round, that is to do a loosen-up pants; I like it an upgraded-handsome version of his balloon pants bk from s/s06, an improved teddy boy outfit. However, tailleur pieces such as jacket, suit and coat should always be well-tailored, I see roomy pieces which I find a bit too roomy for my personal liking. Ultra-long sleevs didn't bother me at all, but the colour of the tan leather-suede pieces do. I like most of the knitwear and I like the geometric print grey jacket, as well as Jackson Pollock, which someone dun like, but dun forget Monsieur Saint Laurent (the master that Hedi worships) was famously known for putting art on couture, Warhol, Ridley, Picasso, etc... to name a few, and saying that I think Pilati used Pollock on the Cassadre logo tee in this season (s/s07, in store now), I like Hedi's approach (on a jacket) more than on a tee which i find more insulting to the mentioned artist somehow.

I disliked a few DH shows in 04-05, as they're too casual, too wearable (marketable), and too easy-to-be-copied, but after s/s06, it's great to see the "difficult" allure pieces coming back. I like many of them & will like more for sure, as the rest we dun get to see are from the showroom, but not in the show.

Before this show, I kinda worried cos Raf Simons & Ann Demeulemeester are so strong this season, as well as Junya Watanabe and Lanvin. Glad to see Hedi's work is up there still.

Last but not least, dun really want to get into the "race fight", but just a personal opinion that, I think black can carry the same allure as good as white, and asian too. Needless to say, japanese admire Hedi, and his influence is everywhere in Tokyo and Hong Kong, i mean very much so, seriously. Jap wear DH the way in Hedi's ideal, u know, in a rock n'rock feeling: long hair, tall, lanky and a lot skinnier than a lot of whites (for that weight matter)... , total DH appearance could well be better than some caucasian. Anyway, not here to start or end a fight, but i think Dior family as a global brand, race should never be an issue in fashion (just look at John's lastest couture, u'll get a hint), and I'm anticipating an asian on DH catwalk soon....

*Note: i'm a tall, thin, straight haired Chinese, and I'm proud to be one, for your record.

applause for your words.:flower: :flower: :woot:
