Does anyone know how the price in Paris compare to the prices in Canada/US (which are pretty much equivalent now)? I'm thinking about picking up a few items when I'm there in May, but I don't want to pay more because of the exchange!

You can also claim tax (12%) when you leave Europe if you spend over 175 euros :D Well if you buy it in the Le Bon Marche, Printemps and Gallery Layfayette that I know of...

you can get tax free for any product that you purchased but didnt use in the country. rules differ from country to country but yet you usually save quite a handy amount of cash :D

Mmmmhmm I claimed 400 euros when I left Europe :woot: A good excuse to shop like crazy

If you're coming over there with your American dollars you won't get very far. During the latest 7-8 years the dollar has lost 40% of its value, so everything here is 30-40% more expensive. But if you are from Canada you should be okay.

so i passed by the DH in NYC and was let down.
they didn't even have a decent selection of suits.
i ended up getting a Prada suit.

You clearly went to the went to the wrong designer. As much as I love DH, it's one of the last places I would go to buy a high end suit.

I know I posted this in another thread, but the Dior outlet boutique in Woodbury Commons now has pieces from Dior Homme line.

i think a fully-canvassed suit in nice, english suiting for around 1300€ really isn't that bad of a deal... it might not be bespoke, but the quality is still great for ready-to-wear standards. what would be your own suggestions?

If you're going to get designer suiting you're best options are from Jil Sander or Ralph Lauren Black Label (in that $1400-$2300 range).

i'm not really keen on the fabrics that raf chooses... and also the lightness of his construction (especially shoulder pads)...

a friend of mine's been an assistant at his own line and i pretty much agree with him that he chooses fabric rather from a graphic, rather than a luxe point of view... i keep looking back at what he does (also at jil sander), and keep seeing those flipsy, cotton and lightweight italian suiting fabrics that could just as well be zegna or any other italian producer... it's always been a very odd thing as well to see raf choosing a lot of fabrics helmut lang's been using the season before!

with hedi - not so much kris van assche - and also nicolas andreas taralis at cerruti, i liked the choice of really dry, rather heavy weighted (english) woollen fabrics.

then again, i think a lot goes back to preferences and taste, i don't really like the neapolitan style of tailoring.

I was talking about the tailored and Sartorial Jil Sander suits, not the runway ones.

i actually did mean to say that as well - though i can't speak of what the bespoke sander suiting is like since i haven't seen it (though i guess to compare bespoke with off-the-rack quality would probably be a little unfair)... after all, what raf's been showing on the runway for this spring is more of a deconstructed, less structured suit, incomparable with classical, canvassed suiting.

i've been trying myself through the selection they had in the avenue montaigne flagship andd albeit the nice fit, i was not particularly taken by the fabrics hey had chosen... same with the dreadful selection of jil sander women's pre-collection they had loads of in beige and brown, with occassional orange and green accents... :yuk:

not necessarily, but could be. i have seen his AW'08 collection up close in the showroom (unfortunately not this one fabric, though) and was really let down by the fabrics and the quality of his tailoring - not to speak of this first section of jackets made entirely of burlap cloth! those pieces with dégradé effect in red to orange were in fact felted, and rather badly i must say.

really amazed that it is felted :o i don't really think that print looks good in a fabric like felt.. sort of cheap colour choice isn't it..

but burlap.. unusual pick haha.. i know it's coarse, but sounds so fascinating
i thought maybe this material would have been popular in the past seasons
esp with the old /rustic artisan work that influenced for example ss 04-06 (marni, prada)
& now there is even raffia on the runway or paper-like materials
i actually like it..

anyway it's nice he has interesting choices
i remember his ss 08 with the perforated tyvek ~

a sales rep just told me that the pre-sale is starting may 19 (public may 26), heads up for anyone wanting anything.

i wasn't so keen on anything from the ss08 collection and i'm not sure i'll would even want it with a discount :P

Does anyone know if the Dior Outlet in Cabazon, CA carries Dior Homme? Also is there a website where I would be able to view the inventory of Dior Homme items at the outlets rather than having to call the stores?

Thanks!
