Do You Think Luella Is On The Way Out?

i'll just repeat what everyone's saying: it all depends on why you are buying the bag. if you are buying a bag to set yourself apart from the crowd, then i think you answered your own question, if you are buying a bag bc you want something cute to walk around in, it shouldn't matter what other people have.

if you need unique, one of a kind, i suggest you invest in something newer (devi kroell comes to mind) or something unexpected from an established house (i mean hermes does make more than four bags!)...no matter who you are, a bag is a big investment, on its own it can establish or wreck a look, but in the end, no bag can overcome a downward glance and an insecure walk. so i suggest you get a bag that makes you feel like a million bucks and if the gisele does that, then go for it.

My friend has a rouge classic Gisele - she calls it her interview bag because every time she carries it to an interview she feels really great and gets lots of compliments

I think this was the launch season? I have seen some much cuter styles than those for this fall (2004)

My new favourite is still this one with the little stirrup

I also love the 'western applique' version of the Gisele

I went shopping eysterday and saw the newest Luella Gisele. I actually really liked it. It was dark chocolate brown with a fleecy lining.

Thanks for the advice...still like the bag, esp. the new Brogue bag, but opted against it after seeing horribly pleather fakes at the Nordstrom junior's dept. while searching for a Halloween costume. Really awful! Has anyone noticed Juicy, too, has come out with bags that look suspiciously like the Luella bags...complete with heart tag?

i actually think i'm starting to fall for the white baby gisele...i can't do the classic size because i'm so tiny but this bag is really growing on me, but so far i'm only liking the white....

I've seen the white version. I think it's nice - it's more stiff (boxier) than the lilac, red and green versions.

mikeijames, IMHO, is absolutely right. Today I was at a conference in Cleveland, and was standing outside a building looking pretty unassuming with my Chloe Python Silverado on my arm. A total stranger approached me and said in passing, "Girl., that's one good-lookin' bag!!!" I love it already, but I had a lift for the rest of the day. Not because I was looking to impress anyone, but I appreciated the fact that someone else (another closet fashionista LOL???) thought my bag was stylin'. Get what you like and go with it!

Did you see the white Luella in the November Vogue? There's a long article in the magazine on hot new designer bags and it focuses on the Gisele and another designer bag (cant remember which one). There's a big picture of a white Gisele.

mmm..it's a hard decision. I have had 3 Giseles. I had a large Nude one, and a baby one in bubblegum pink ( have since sold both ) and now i Have a rouge red one in baby size. They are absolutely gorgeous and I think they will remain a classic for those that love the Birkin style ( i.e. flap over, double handles, belt around closure ) but don't have the birkin money but want to buy an authentic classic bag that has that wow factor. It DOES have that wow factor.

I remember when I first saw this bag on the runway but it was not carried by Gisele Bundchen but by an unknown model. It was a large carry on exactly like the infamous picture of Gisele's one that she carried and I just could not find it anywhere. I searched ebay and Luella Bartley NEVER came up. Then BANG>>>the bags came out and in all these colours..black,,,pink,,,nude,,,chocolate. I have to say so far the best colours in this bag would be the nude or the bubblegum pink. Although I bought my Baby Gisele in rouge, I still have not used it and now I am selling it simply because I have never used it ! ( I do take it out every so often and admire it ...pat it like a pussycat ...and think about whether I am doing the right thing to sell it because it is sooo beautiful and I could pass down to my daughter )I think because I thought I was a red person but really I'm not. It's just too flash for me. I wish I had kept my Nude because that was just DAMN gorgeous but I had the large one and as an everyday bag ...the large was too big. It's like carrying a 40cm birkin everyday. It's quite large. Great as a carry on though.

The baby version is the best and most beautiful size I think to carry your everyday stuff.

Lucky for me I have never seen anyone with a Luella bag in Australia and nor have I ever seen anyone carry a fake of it either ..nor an inspired bag.

If I were to rebuy one I would go for the Nude Baby version. I think that size and that colour is the best !

I think if you love something...and you know you will use it ..then buy it. Don't do what I did...loved it ( the rouge one ) and then not use it.

I think it's because most of the time I need a quick easy opening bag and That is one thing Luella ain't !! It's tricky to keep unbuckling and then rebuckling . It gets to the point that I just put the leather insert to close it up and not bother with the rebuckling. I think this feature brought about the design of the open tote.

anyway ...go for it if you love it and will use it !!!
