Dries van Noten

Then there's this skirt, which, because of the shape, is just really hard to wear. This is I think more the problem helena was talking about in the other Dries thread, whereas the problem with the two items above have a lot to do with the print

tourist, the picture of you wearing the skirt is ideal, so clever how you mixed it up and found the niche lengths, even down to darker on top and lightness in the middle melding back into darker tones on the bottom. i also find that his boxy (or another brand of) jackets suit the lower proportions perfectly. i think that's why he does so many cropped jackets.

your picture of the post #761 skirt is more of a challenge but with a slim t it would look good and some dries type heels. interestingly, even though i dont necessarily look at the runway styling for precise ways to put his work together, it does make sense that the shoes i wear are often matched to the season's garments just because they tie in to each other with ease.

your draped top (which is gorg, do tell me what that is please) is a layering piece to me so i wouldnt necessarily wear it with a jacket. if i look at what i have from dries for tops most are very boxy square cut and a bit cropped. he does seem to throw in many different proportional looks so depending on your body type you can usually find something that is appropriate. perhaps that is my draw, the beautiful prints done in a variety of cuts to suit vastly different body types.

all in all i love your choice of his prints.

touris10 I think that this skirt...also the shoes looks great on you.

I don't know really what to say about Dvn's clothes cause I don't have any of it.I don't know how it fits on me.My opinion is that you have to be skinny to look good in Dries.

Olivia Palermo is here dressed in very "Dries van noten look"

EnVogueLove - my apologies, I had some type-o's in the url's I gave you. It should be http://www.brownsfashion.com and http://www.antonioli.eu. Both of these are in Europe, Joan Shepp is in the US. I'm not really sure about mytheresa ...

In terms of fit, actually, I don't think you have to be skinny to wear Dries! I feel his clothes are definitely made for a woman's body. It is an advantage to be tall, however. Many things didn't work out for me because the proportions better suited a taller person. Also, I find sometimes his volumes overwhelm me. Women with good stature wear Dries the best, I just try to find the few things here and there that work for me.

touris10 I was at http://www.brownsfashion.com and I love it.I was also at mytheresa and for my country the price for sending me what a ordered is 49 euros.I think that mytheresa is from Germany(but not sure).I am so happy that you find me this sites. The prices are not that big..it's like everything is less 1000 euros.Do you know the prices in Dvn's stores would be the same or higher?

Well...that's true that you have to be tall to wear Dvn.But for people who are not that tall they would look good in Dvn only if they are skinny(that's what I wonna say). The pictures where you are wearing Dries I could say that Dries fits really pretty on you.I wish I had some Dries clothes....Do you have any other Dries clothes?

luckyme - thanks for the styling ideas and for your compliments! :flower: I agree with you, boxy cropped jackets work so well with his skirts, and I too often pair his pieces with his shoes ... they just make so much sense together. As for that spring07 skirt, that's usually how I wear it ... with a light tee and maybe an open cardigan. Sometimes I wear it with this really pretty chiffon sleeveless top from his spring04 collection, which can be an interesting contrast. But to be honest, mostly I don't wear it much!

This is the same style as my draped top, but in brown:

although the draping actually looks more like this:

it's gorgeous, I just need to find a good way to wear it in the fall.

In general, I find his prints can be hard to work with, but they are so gorgeous, I can't help myself!

envoguelove, this is not true of dries. he dresses a woman not a mannequin. just find what suits you and have it tailored to fit if need be.

tourist, that was such a phenomenal collection. i still wish i could find that turquoise jacket in the background

I agree with luckyme, honestly, these clothes fit really well on a real woman's body.

This coat I don't know why I love..maybe because it's old fashioned..and I love old fashioned stuff.

So what are your fav from f/w 04/05?

EnVogueLove - your best bet for finding things from past seasons is to look on ebay.com periodically. You'll find some amazing things there every now and then. I wanted that fall skirt from the previous page when it was current season, but none of the stores around here purchased it. A couple years later, it appeared on ebay, in my size (and I won it for $50!!), so you never know! You can also check yoox.com, but most of that is from more recent seasons. Btw, I'm not a moderator, but I think someone soon will ask you to please post credits for your pictures (like style.com or whatever) :flower: I always really loved those wrap around knit shawls from a/w 2004

You know, I passed by his store in Antwerp today, they were just changing the window displays (they are always really special!) and this time, it were all those woodblock prints painted in huge in black and white

If I had read this earlier I would have taken a picture :p

she melts...thanks. metricsam, if, by chance you go by again please do take a shot, that would be so cool.

I have the top in the second pic...and yesterday, after our chat in the Dries a/w10 thread about wearing Dries clothes, I put it on with renewed gusto to figure out how best to make it work....only to spray some wax (intended for my hair) all over it .....so I had to hastily take it off and hand wash it. I think it has survived but it would seem destined not to wear me well.
