Duran Lantink - Designer, Creative Director of Jean Paul Gaultier

Speaking of zombie brands kept alive by their fragrances I feel like the way he works around one gimmick and develops it fits Viktor and Rolf better

we don't need more condom dresses

I think that‘s a very unfair dismissal for how much Stewart has evolved his work over the past years since he emerged on the scene, I‘m sorry.

Of all the people setting up their own labels, Standing Ground is one of the few where it‘s all about the steady refinement of the designers' craft and vision in a way that has gone lost since the early 2000s.

I don‘t think he should rush into a big maison to become it‘s new CD so fast when we see how short-lived the most recent top jobs were replaced again, but he definitely has the talent and potential for a lasting career in top-tier womenswear design.

Lol congrats on having 'an" opinion. If anything Lantink samples and recycles old V&R ideas, with less fortunate results. In fact V&R have declined the Gaultier couture guest spot for several seasons now cos they're pretty much holding their own in couture. Despite your TikTok fuelled perspective. Thank you.

A bit of a passionate response for a brand that has not been part of the fashion conversation since SS10 no?

Hugely disappointing.

Gaultier’s own last few years have been hugely disappointing already; as was his couture guest-collab concept in general; and the drag costume fodder that’s currently what representational of his brand is hugely cringe. Duran Lantink’s gimmicky showpieces and tricksy styling with no potential for strong separates seems to be just coasting by that current irrelevant trajectory Gaultier’s on, unfortunately. Maybe the attention will temporary boost more fragrances at the chain drugstores, and maybe Ssense will place a larger order for those insufferable tattoo-print basics…. But Gaultier seems to be doomed to the annals of fashion’s yesteryears with this appointment: As well-made as they may look, Duran’s designs are so dated, so reductive— reminding of better and greater versions that came before him (with a sprinkling of Gaultier’s own costume collabs of the 80s/90s for dance companies), and destined only for SHOWStudio shoots; there’s nothing outstanding in terms of investable separates beyond generic basics. More and more, I loath that of any brand. Maybe Duran will work like Rumpelstiltskin for Gaultier— as Julian did for Dries. But I doubt it, this person seems very limited.

It’s appointments like this that I’m fully convinced fashion deserves to burn to the ground. Alexandre Vauthier installed at Jean Paul Gaultier wholesale would’ve been fashion perfection. This Duran person is just going to contribute more tacky eurotrash for 15yos to sell fragrances. Another once great label bites the dust.

(BTW @Vitamine W , at a quick glimpse, I thought your avatar was a highly-styled Mariacarla LMFAO)
