Dyeing clothes

Can I dye fur? I have this fur jacket that I'm costumizing into a fur vest. The fur is rabbit and it is a light tone... The color doesen't bother me so much but I was just wondering is it possible to dye fur? If it is I guess I have to take to professional?? How much does this cost?

yes-
just don't leave them in there too long and they will come out grey anyway,....


and remember that everything is a couple of shades darker when wet....
so make them darker than you think you want them and when dry they should be just right...

how to dye my lee skinny jeans?

so i got these Lee skinny jeans but i dont quite like the colour.. they are a sort of faded black colour but have that extra worn out thing going on at the front and back of the legs which i dont like...

id like to dye them back to a faded black kind of thing... anyone got any idea how i'd go about acheiving that and where i might get the stuff i need to do it in London?

hello all, i've my eye on this chiffon-y top but the problem is it's in this peach-y colour which i'm not crazy about and would like to dye it a grey, maybe a steel gray?
what i would like to know is, does chiffon take colour well?

^ Nowadays fabrics are made up of all kinds of materials. Generally speaking, natural fibers are the easiest to dye, along with manmade fibers made from "natural" sources. Synthetics are often very hard or even impossible to dye.

And remember that 100% anything might be sown with polyester thread which won't respond well to the dye...

If the chiffon is silk it should be possible to dye it, but as always with colours they mix with each other. You might have to bleach it first if you want a really cold, blueish colour.

Has anyone tried to dye anything wool? I have a wool felt tunic with raw edges (it basically looks like a sack) in a most unflattering shade of light beige. I'd like for it to be deep purple or royal blue. I wouldn't mind if it shrank a little. But only a little.

Also, this is an incredibly dumb question, but here goes: Is there any danger of the dye running off if you get rained on while wearing the dyed item? I'm having flashbacks to middle school when kids used to dye their hair purple and pink with Kool-Aid or Jell-O powder. First time they got rained on, their hair color would wash out.

hboogie you must use a good quality dye if you don't want it to wash out. a good dye will bind with the fabric. usually you have to heat set it. acid dyes work with wool (silk too)

wob- did you wash them...that usually rinses out a lot of the extra dye..

i have found it hard to get really vibrant colours in general...
and the colours that i find work best have been black and blue...
purple was nice too...but not really deep purple...
more a vibrant purple....

i have had no such issues with dye running off..
as gius says- you either have to heat set it after/during the dying process...plus the dyes usually have some agent in them to set the colour...

it's not like the hair dye......
i've had personal experience with that myself...
...everything turned blue except my hair!!!...

i dyed another batch--used black again...

the best thing that came out of it was a kaffiyeh scarf---

originally white and red---
now dark grey and burgundy...
looks really good and now i don't look like a victim if i wear mine cause it's unique...

Bah. My jean-dying experiment didn't go too well. I should have bleached them first, but didn't think of it. They were a light blue, and I dyed them with black. They turned a really dark indigo. Plus they have gold stitching, which I really just don't like.

I've been too lazy to try and wash them again, the dye just never seemed to come out when I did.

I washed some items black.. and the washing maschine seems to have some dye in it now.. I'm scared of doing my whites in case they turn out grey..

Has this happen to anyone? what do you do?

^you whites will probably turn grey if the dye is really visible and dark and if you wash with warm water. i suppose you should just hand wash the inside or unless your washing machine have features that washes it self clean.
usually the inside should be clean =T

i dyed my jeans black but it's starting to fade, so i used spray paint on it. is it toxic to wear spray painted clothing? im scared that bad chemicals will sink into my body through my pores =T
