Eliminating Sugar From Your Diet

Hmm, I think to be on the safe side I'll cut out pastries and replace with fruit.

With me it all goes in ups and downs  I've been on a low-sugar diet for about half a year, then I got bored and gave it up. Now I'm considering geeting back to healthy eating patterns, because it really made miracles to my skin and body

good girl Melissa, try curbing your sugar cravings with a nice cup of green tea or perhaps a soy green tea latte and a handful of blueberries

Thanks a lot Acid :flower: I'll follow your advice :D

people assume that fruit is sugary and therefore bad, this is not true as your body is able to recognize that this is infact fructose and is broken down slowly in your body and doesn't cause your blood sugar levels to spike in the case of eating say a doughnut

This is a major misconception. All fruits also contain sucrose, It is the predominant sugar in plants as well as the major source of energy for photosynthetic plants. It doesn't matter if you get a gram of sugar from your apple or your sugar bowl; the sugar from your apple will increase your blood sugar. The benefit of eating fruit over table sugar is that fruit contains other vitamins that add nutritional value.

i havent had any form of processed or unnatural sugars in over a year now.
never ever get cravings, but i was never a sweets eater anyway. i also dont eat wheat gluten, rice, soy, eggs or dairy and only eat fish so mines a bit more extreme than just "no junk food" plus i dont drink alcohol at all. i love fruit though
the ease in which you can do this completely depends on your mental dedication to it and how strong you can be.

does green tea really take away sugar cravings?

Managed to go a few weeks without sugar and my face totally cleared up! Not a clogged pore in sight clear! Unfortunately, these past couple weeks I fell off the wagon and my skin completely reflects it. I didn't think it was possible in such a short time but my skin is broken out, pores are clogged (did some extractions which didn't aid the breakout), and overall I just feel worse for wear. I've been really depressed of all things, which is unusual because I'm typically a happy person. After this experience I've decided I need to be free from sugar totally or I'm just not going to achieve any sort of wellbeing. I'm also going to see about eliminating gluten for good as well. Most my sweets are combined with wheat products and I think bread just hikes up the cravings for me.

awesome thread, used to be a sugar addict but it destroyed my teeth over the years.

Passed up a cannoli for a square of my 85% dark chocolate. I'm pretty pleased with myself.

It's the same for me. When I cut out sugar I notice a difference in skin. But I was eating a lot of sweet stuff the past few days and now I'm just feeling ugly and depressed about my skin again.
How did you manage to cut sugar out entirely? I always manage for a few days and then I fall off the wagon again pretty soon

I've been reading this thread whilst eating a chocolate bar. That's naughty, isn't it...? ;0)

I am more than a little tempted to give this a go and see if my skin improves.

I read French Women Don't Get Fat a while ago and took to heart a lot of what Mireille Giuliano proposes in the book. (It's actually very intelligent and helpful.) She talks about being a chocolate lover (and therefore a chocolate snob) and how anything over 80% (or perhaps it was 75%) is not all that unhealthy. Obviously you ought to have everything in moderation - and the same goes for this - but I've found that my little square of dark chocolate with my red wine after dinner pretty much satisfies me for the whole day. I look forward to it. Since the dark is such high quality, the ultra-sugary stuff tastes way too sweet to me now. So that's what's worked for me. Hope this helps.

I really want to do this, but I don't know where to start, it seems that everything I eat contains sugar . I once tried to cut out sugar, and ended up doing what Virginielle does, looking forward to and enjoying that one square of chocolate at the end of the day, but after a few weeks I gave up. I really love sugar, I know that it's bad but I just can't help myself.:ninja:

I prep myself in advance; totally have a plan of attack mapped out lol!

I set a date, make sure I don't have a busy weekend (aka too much social life w/the opportunity to cheat), and then I go shop. I get raspberries, strawberries, Lara Bars (there's these fantastic chocolate ones that are like dessert paired with berries:heart:) and other sweet fruits. I also drink fresh vegetable juices if possible because it helps the "detox" go smoother and gives me something to "treat" myself with. Greens and salads also really help with cravings.

I hate to condone this (completely contridicts the detox process ) but if necessary I also hit the medicine cabinet because I often get terrible headaches when stopping sugar. Take naps, get lots of sleep, and don't feel bad if you have to put people off...I'm irratable as can be when I first go off sugar. Having a good couple days alone or low stress is key for me.

Other tips, I make sure to take my vitamins, deep condition my hair, get a face mask, have good books and maybe a film on hand and enjoy the feeling that once the first bit is over I'm going to feel fantastic and look great too!

After all this work I'm less encouraged to go back. I also see how wonderful my skin is looking and how much better my body is feeling overall. Keep reminding myself how important this is for my health and wellbeing. Alas, it is when all this ends that I end up in trouble :ninja:

The longest I've gone is 6 months...and I relaped because of complancy more than anything. Laziness is my number one detrament with sugar :innocent: Anyone have any maintanence tips?

i always avoid sugar if possible by customizing drinks and foods that are made in front of me (i always say no sugar/unsweetened/non fat/no whipped cream for my starbucks frapps, bubbleteas, frozen yogurt...etc.) and i don't eat milk chocolate either...but as soon as i eat a kit kat chunky bar, aero, reese's pieces or any other generic processed type sugary product, my body loses control and starts craving it so bad i end up binging on like 100 candy bars in a week! does anyone know why this is? is it because the sugar is like a host and your body starts feeding off it? otherwise i'm pretty good when it comes to controling sweet cravings or not even having them at all but as soon as i get a taste of the bad stuff, it's over!
