Eliminating Sugar From Your Diet

i still haven't gotten my results yet from my blood tests. Im scared to find out. Today I went to the mall for luncha nd I had a fruit tart and a lightly sweetened coffee drink. I'm doing a lot better in the sugar dept.

I do somewhat well in the sugar department, abstain from candy, cookies, etc. I still have my cravings though, they will desist, im sure of it.

Today is the 5th day of my sugarless life :flower:

And already the texture of my skin is so much better (and I've been too busy with midterms to exercise - I imagine it will be that much better when I finally make it to the gym!). Granted, I also cleaned up every other aspect of my diet and am eating mostly raw foods, but I think that cutting out processed sugars is what's really making the difference.

I am a chocoholic ... Don't think I can stay away from sugar ...love coke and cakes yum:p

its so hard. I have it in coffees and its terrible because I need my morning coffee. I don't like plain coffee. I also love eating these burger king hershey pies every now and then. Sorry I realize I sound like a fat A**

I've just finished to read all the 5 pages:D and I'd say that this discussions are sooo helpful:flower::flower::flower:.

Do you ladies know what should be the correct amount of grams of sugar to take in each day?

Well, my "sugarless life" didn't exactly start on Monday  but I am now being serious about it, and today is the first day. It's funny how much sugar there is in products that you wouldn't think contain sugar. For example, the yoghurt I eat in the mornings. I used to eat this fat free yoghurt (or nearly fatless, I think there was 0,5% of fat), until I realised that even though there's no fat, they have made up the taste using refined sugar. I switched to yoghurt that has 30% less sugar, and guess what? They make up on the taste with adding fat. I guess I should give up flavoured yoghurt and start eating natural yoghurt.

I guess to start off this I need to go through what I usually eat... and then go grocery shopping. I hope this works out, as I think giving up refined sugar would do wonders, or at least give some extra energy.

Crakk, I don't know the correct amount of sugar, but I guess you should visit your country's site about these things, the official recommendations are there. However, I don't think there's a need for anyone to eat refined sugar in their daily diet, but correct me if I am wrong. Of course there's need for sugars such as those from fruit, natural sugars, but I don't believe the processed version is part of the recommendations.

Thank you so much. I will look into that.

I find it so hard to truly abstain from processed sugars, especially because i am 19, living at home, and my mother buys all of my food. Lately though, my mother has become open to the idea of me buying my own food , so, i think this will become much easier within the next couple of months. I LOVE JIF'S PEANUT BUTTER and WELCH'S GRAPE Jelly though..LOL..but i know they are full of sugar, hopefully i can find a suitable substitute @ the Whole Foods Store in Manhattan.:flower:

Not sure... I don't think all of them have. Don't trust my sources, but I always thoughts green tea was one of the teas that didn't have any caffeine.

You can buy de-caffinated. I've recently changed to an organic de-caffinated brand and I enjoy it just as much as I did before and now I don't have to feel guilty about how many cups I have

Green tea is more caffeinated than regular. Make sure it is organically decaffinated as Sydney says because they often use harsh chemicals in the process. And I don't miss sugar. Sugar is turning out to be no problem now. It is meat and chips that are killing me! Argh the life of an ascetic is tough!

Oh and dates, raisins, agave nectar, maple syrup and dried fruit are the way to curb sugar cravings. Soon you'll be so bored of them that you'll eat less.
