A blonde moment that paid off: Emily Blunt avoids speeding charge because of her 'Barbie-esque' driving licence

he might be taken more seriously as a brunette, but it was a picture of her blonde former self that got Emily Blunt off the hook with the police recently.

The British actress, 26, was pulled over for speeding in Hollywood but escaped with a let-off because the traffic officer was so amused by her driving licence.

He loved the fact it was pink and her hairstyle so out of date.

She told Jay Leno of her lucky escape on his U.S. chat show last night.

Dressed in a revealing one-shoulder, asymetric LBD and strappy high heels, she said: 'I was only eight miles over the limit but this cop, I swear to god, he was straight out of CHiPs.

It was like he'd watched that show and been practising all the moves at home in front of a mirror.

'The window went down and he said, "licence."'

She then showed the licence to the host and his audience, explaining that she had blonde hair when the picture was taken in her teens.

The Golden Globe-nominated star said: 'British driving licenses are actually pale pink in colour and I had really blonde hair in the picture as it was when I was 17.

'It actually looks like a Barbie card. The guy takes it and says, "What is this?"

'I said, "I know it looks like a Barbie but it's actually a UK driving licence."'

Blunt missed out on a Globe this week after being nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) category for her performance in The Young Victoria.

She was among one of the best-dressed actresses on the red carpet at the event, wowing onlookers in her pink chiffon Dolce & Gabbana dress.
