Facial Exercises?

I dont think its all super ridiculous... your face has muscles, like your body, and if you excersise them right you can avoid droopiness...

I think it is predominately practiced in the far east...maybe some members from the far east can enlighten us ?? :flower:

i dont think its ridiculous at all, ive been doing mine every night for about 2-3 months and loads of people have commented that my cheekbones stand out more and my jaw is more defined.

what i do for my jaw line is (ultra slowly) look to the right by moving your head and neck so it feels like youre trying to look at your back, hold it for 5secs then repeat looking to the left. Then look upwards and to the right, stretching your chin upwards, hold it, and repeat on the left, then bring your head down and look directly up. I repeat all this five times once a day. its important that you do it all ultra slowly as jerking your neck can be really bad.

I also try to stretch out all my facial muscles by pulling really random faces, raising eyebrows and frowning etc (all done in private cos you do look a bit silly, lol).

i got these tips from a yoga and callenetics workout video btw.

Oooh thanks...off to look up facial yoga...a more defined jaw and cheekbones?! Wojdklfsjwloekhdfalkdhfl;shlagehlraw!!!!!

basically by the stretching of the facial muscles over the area you want to tighten, like if you open your mouth by pulling your jaw right downwards it stretches the skin over your cheeks (esp if you open your eyes really wide), also sucking in your cheeks whilst raising your eyebrows pulls that area of your face aswell. be careful not to hold it for too long though as you can strain your law, i find it best to do it in a more fluid movement. :woot:

Very interesting info, Antonia... thanks so much for sharing. :flower:

I have one...
What you do is press you finger tips (index, middle and ring- use both hands simultaneously one on each eye) firmly upagainst your eyebrows- pushing them slightly up..then frown (or use your facial muscles to squint your face).. you should feel a tug on your forehead and right above your brows.
This tightens your forehead area.

if these work then why do people get botox to prevent their facial muscles from moving? people wouldn't need botox if they didn't move their face and if they avoided daylight. stopping repetitive facial movements is the big reason for getting botox injected.

These aren't really exercises, but... when my Chinese grandma washes her face, she always brushes her hands upwards from her jawline to her cheeks. Also, from the centre of her jawbone (on the area between your neck and chin) she runs her hands towards the jawline (hope that makes sense because I don't know how else to explain). This is supposed to stop you developing jowls. Seems to be working for her so far (she is in her seventies)! Though it could just be her genes. Many Asians tend to look younger than they really are.

I think it may have some truth to it, though. I used to have a dent in the centre of my chin when I was a kid. The other kids would tell people to pinch their chin to see if they had a 'cherry' or 'bum' chin. I had the latter. The kids would tease me about it all the time. Every day after that I would pull at the sides of my chin, hoping it would make that line go away and it did!

I have a yoga teacher who does 'facial yoga' and she swears by it. I also saw something on MSN news and they talked with doctors, and it actually has the same effects as botox :D

The massaging and repetition along the jawline are called 'mandible slides'. I am an aesthetician and use a variety of facial massages when giving treatments. It helps decongestion and products applied are better absorbed into the skin.
