Exercise and your period

well usually i try to do cardio...like jogging or elliptical...as it makes me feel better

then go home and take a hot shower and hop in bed with a good magazine and a painkiller

I don't usually have a problem with feeling bad around this time.. I'm blessed. But I sometimes walk instead of run.

I can only do arm exercises because I feel so ill. and as for the people who feel sexy and even have sex during their period i can not relate, i've never understood that i would think it would be so embarassing or something. the only thing i get the urge to do when im on my period is clean the house, i think it might me a maternal reaction or something.

I should exercise, my PE teacher always said it was the best thing for cramps but if I'm pain I cna't get the motivation, I'll have to try yoga or pilates though.

pilates is the best. i still don't forget all the other things that i do in the gym, but latley pilates has been most efficient getting the cramps away. other just gets my mind off everything else surrounding me

i've had sex during my periods, and i don't find it disturbing. well you are little bit worried about your sheets but it's just sex. my boyfriend doesn't mind so i don't see periods ase being somekind of obsticle for having sex

ill just do anything taht will get my muscles around my midsection warmed up, (stretching, crunches, ec.) but thats usually like the second day, cuz the first day for me is hell on earth, i get really really neacous (sorry i cant spell:blush:).but i read if you take asperine or ib profen regularly 3 to 4 days before your period, your crampls will be signifcantly reduce, hmmm

Same for me!^
I usually do try to stretch as well on the second day though, and if that doesn't work there's always Aleve!

i think yoga does really help, especially cause there aren't any sudden movements

I heard that you should start exercising a week in advance. But is this just for PMS or cramps too?

Sometimes I find that I hardly feel pain at all, when usuallyI hurt like hell. I wonder why this is.

Wow alot of people seem to do ab exercises but I can't bare to at that time of the month :( I just find my stomach is so tender :( I like powerwalking or yoga and pilates though!

I'm a bit like this too. Apparently it's because each month you switch ovaries so one can be worse than the other. I find every second month I get alot of pain where in the months in between I'm fine. I have one evil ovary!

haha That's so strange. I have such vague knowledge on the whole subject.

I'm actually quite new to exercising on my period. I usually just lie in bed and wait it out. But this last time was so bad, I nearly went insane, then threw up. :yuk: I don't know exactly what to do. Does it work to exercise before you cramps start to come? After a certain point, all hell breaks lose and I can't really do much of anything.

I feel strangely energetic the day I'm abotu to start my cycle. Anyone else? It's really odd, I actually workout and stay up late. Maybe it's natures way of telling me not to take those non-cycle days for granted...
I'm the same. I don't really feel energetic per se (or maybe that's because I'm feeling lazy and justifying that 101 other women feel tired during that time, I should too), but when I start on a cardio exercise, I can go on and on and on ... without feeling really tired at all.

What gets me though, is the week before. Or two. Whenever I exercise, and that includes having sex, my stomach cramps like nobody's business. It's often so painful that I had to stop exercising. Be it on a machine, running, sex or swimming. It always comes.

I must be nature's freak.

yoga

especially yoga for kids - butterfly pose etc.

but then i don't really exercise

my period is a lot lighter and regular wen i exercise...n wen i stop exercising regularly...ma period is quite heavy and long

i love child's pose too! ppl say exercise is good at that time but sometimes i just don't feel like it(esp when i'm bloating and cramping...)anyway, anymore yoga stuff that's good?
I'm not sure what the position is called, but on the box of Yogi Moon Cycle Tea (which helps relieve cramps and bloating and even helps with fatigue) there is a period relief pose where you lie on your back with knees to chest. Remember to breathe. It works like a charm every time!

my period is always lighter if I exercise. It usually is only 3 days long anyways  but exercise is great for me...pilates and also regular gym cardio workouts: ellipticals/spinning/treadmills. That's why I'll be there tomorrow!!

i find that if i exercise during my period, i won't feel any cramps or pain, so i keep myself active by going for my yoga classes or just do an hr of speed walking.

Question: I heard that its common for athlethes to skip their periods. Is it true? :flower:
