Fair / Pale Skin

oh, really? I misunderstood then
I really DO sit under the sun and stuff. Cause I like it.
well, I actually am trying to get some colour. I know I won't but I'm trying. I think it's beautiful as well, in the winter I like to be all pale and in the summer I wish I'd be somewhat tan :)

^ where do you live? I have super pale too and i can't get away any colours of clothing in hong kong!

im from Philippines. I normally go to Hong Kong twice a year. Will be going there this July. =) don't you love you're fair skin? =)

^ right now ppl around my age in hong kong starts enjoying tanning too and all the hip clothes are made for tanned skin so :( besides when i was is canada, my asian friend will tease me that im not asian because i am too pale :ninja:

but do you guys like, never sunbath at all?
cause you know 15 min/day is good for your health

I spend a fair amount of time outside. I just burn like mad so it's never without SPF 70 or whatever!

(Yes, I know it's not about the number but the repeated application of sunscreen. When I see those high numbers, I can't help but buy them.)

And in the hot hot Summer I have to put sunscreen on the part in my hair! Anyone else have to do that? Once I burned a little stripe on my head so I learned quickly.

There are products for the hair with sun protection. I need to get some soon. And sunbathing is actually tanning which isn't what people mean when they say people should get a little sun for vitamin D (which is also supposed to be from food sources).

There's no need to purposefully sit in the sun, you can get well over 15 minutes worth of sunlight just going about your daily business!

talking about this vitamin D,
the human body can produce it itself(or himself???) from cholesterole, required is some UV-light. about 15mins going outside and catching some sun-rays from 3 times a week up to everyday is completely enough.
vitamin D can also be ingested through vitamine D containing foodstuff.
this means, less UV-light, esp. in winter, ppl should pay more attention to healthy food.
additionally i think this tanning is exaggerated. naturally europeans, esp. northern europeans are pale cuz it is due to where they live. emigrates and so on are excluded. we are pale cuz nature is smart enough to adapt to its territorial condition. Pale skin is able to absorb more UV-light, cuz in the northern territories sun is less intense and less active (time-wise). in terms of enough vitamine D production nature makes sure it can produce more vitamine D, so did it "create" pale skin. for example african immigrants have to even be more careful with their nutrition. cuz the dark skin is not able to absorb as much UV-light as pale one. Again this is due to their territorial roots. Nature knew there's intense sun so it "created" a darker skin. also cuz too much vitamin D is not healthy either!

personally i prefer being pale, firstly i hate sunburns and secondly it's not healthy for your skin aging nor for your skin condition in general.
a lil' tan is fine to me as well.

also white? i kinda look sick if i wear white shirts

Yes, it took me a while to really notice, as I don't pay to much attention to the the mirror, but I have finally come to the realization that I look rather ghastly in white. :ninja: Probably cause I'm so pale, and well, white, that a white shirt is just about the same shade as my skin color. I also avoid pale pinks and nude colored clothing.

Yes, I do, as well, if I'm going to be out in the sun for a while, otherwise my scalp, where my hair is parted, burns sometimes. ;)

the only white piece of clothing that works for me is white pants ;) but when i buy other pieces i always stick to black or colour

I can wear really pure white, but if it's an off white/cream it looks awful against my skin. I also can't wear beige, or pastel colors like pale pinks and lavenders or yellows. I usually stick to dark and bright colours. I've found that greys especially steel or charcoal look really good against my skintone and hair. (very copper red)

About 2 or so pages back someone said that their is no point in buying SPF over 30 that is actually not true. I just read in Women's Health that a higher number is slightly better. You get 99 percent sunburn protection with SPF 90 compared to 96 with SPF 30. And the article says that over a lifetime, a few percentage points add up to a lot less sun damage.

Besides that I most say I'm loving the sun right now. Even with my sunscreen its bringing out all my freckles.

Oh and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good sunscreen for body and one for hair that's chemical free. Besides Burt's Bees.

I second this - spf15 protects against about 94% of rays, spf 30 protects against 97% and spf 50 protects against 99% so higher spf is good even if reapply throughout the day.

As far as chemical free sunblocks, I believe bare essentials has a powder one in dispensable brush container, and I think jurlique has one. I'm not certain they're completely chemical free but they're worth a look.

Thanks for the recommendations. :flower: I was thinking about using Alba, but their sunscreen only goes up to SPF 15, that I've seen.

Personally I've never had any problem with white or khaki, but pink is the death of me! I have red hair so it's a big no no.

xmodel_citizen, I bet you look lovely in green....I always thought red hair against a green article of clothing just really makes the skin and hair pop.

I have pretty pale skin....I used to tan as a young teen, but thankfully, that didn't last long. I find that I really like pale skin, so I don't mind having it at all. If anything, I try not to tan, for both vanity and health purposes. Pale skin just has a very ethereal beauty and glow.
