The Cool Alternative in an All-Black Season
August 5, 2005 – Designers were seduced by the dark side this season, but there were moments of brightness. Versace's creamy shawl-collar coat and Lanvin's virgin sheath were standouts, as were the sparkling paillette dress at Jil Sander and Ralph Lauren's icy silk column. At Comme des Garçons, half of Rei Kawakubo's Miss Havisham brides wore ivory, while the clerics at YSL Rive Gauche took a turn toward the light side. Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface debut featured a flowing, bow-tied dress for night because, the diva admitted, "I love incorporating white into my winter wardrobe. It's fresh and always sexy."
