Fashion Stylists - Share Your Work, Give & Get Feedback

thank you saann and phanterastyling for the comments...

man everyone here is so good..I wish i could find more stylists in my area..its like the hardest chore ever to find a good one!

Gosh..are there any testing stylists in the NYC Area? I'm desperatly trying to find someone... for a comming shoot!!!!

SashaFan ... you'll probably need to give more info than that to interest a stylist. It takes major planning for stylists to test so we are very selective about who we work with. We don't test easily, because of the work involved. It must be a a concept that we need for our books and a really good photographer who can get strong models.

Are you a photographer? Where can we see your work? I'm not in NY ... I'm just asking for anyone who might want to contact you.

Also ...go to the Networking thread and share your infomation about who you are and show your work/portfolio there and give the dates that you'd like to test and a bit about your concept, where you will get your models, etc.

You are in an enviable position, steeltoe, already being on the inside at a magazine. Is that where you are styling or do you do your styling freelance for other publications/clients/tests? I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work when you are ready.

I think that any new stylists should share here too ... and if they have the guts, ask for critiques. The more experienced stylists might be kind enough to take some time to point out your strengths and offer good advice on the things that you can improve. We all learn by doing and we also have to learn to hear other people's opinions and reactions and to use the information to improve. In the real world, the clients/art directorss won't hesitate to let us know when they don't like something. Might as well get used to it and learn how to regroup and make it better.
Hi BetteT.

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, most of the work that's in my portfolio are from the magazine I help edit. Fortunately, I'm prohibited in doing work for other publications under the same publishing company. (Even better, there's a lot of possible titles I can work for.)

You do make a good point about showing my work for critique. I'll upload one styling work I've done that I'm very comfortable with showing one of these days.

Very 80's is my initial impression. Love the colors and how they pop and like the use of the metalic on bottom on on side and on top on the other. The black shoe and the gold tights bother me a bit ... not really sure why .... think the shoe looks too big on her foot, maybe or it's too much contrast with the gold lame tights? Plus, the angle makes her thigh look big. I like the movement in the pose, but perhaps a different shot e might be better. I"m sure you have others? But that's a really subjective thing ... that's just what strikes me.

I like the first image, although I agree some retouching is needed for her bum (if already not done). The second image is pretty calaogue for me. They don't go together that well. If I had to use one of them I'd go for the first one! :)
