Favourite Cult Films! Post Yours!

what exactly defines a cult film?
I think a cult film is a film that has never been a blockbuster film but still immensely popular or one of those films everyone is talking about and noone has seen.

alot of people I know liked secretary.
I didnt really like it that much. But it had a lot of interesting, fun part.
Cool. What did you like about it????
I think I lose interesting halfway through it. In the begining it was like fantasy, and then as it got closer to the end it seems to feel more realistic. That switch bothered me I think.
But interesting for sure.

good question. I think alot of peolpe are posting films that arent exactly cult film. But so what... its fun to see what differnt people think of when they think of cult films.
I think you could google the def of 'cult film' It can be a few differnt things. But it sort of has to do with a smaller, but more intense adience. Or it can do with the fact thet when it was released it was unknown, and then became popular...

but yeah, if it's mainstream then it can't really be a cult film. But even that may not be always true.....
some one should google it and post the def. I'm too lazy.

Pulp Fiction

Mulholland Dr.
THX 1138

I think for me, it was Maggie's character that really drew me in. I was really intrigued by her desire to feel pain in order to feel love. I thought it was a subject matter that hasn't really been touched upon either in film (unless we're talking about THOSE kinda movies) and instead of ridiculing the subject of S&M, they sought the bigger picture.

There were also some very light, comedic moments from the ensemble cast.

I like a lot of those film too! Some of my favorite. I havent been watching many films in these last few years. But I used to really enjoy finding them. I still remember the ones that inspired me.
I'm wondering which japanese b movie (horror, or otherwise) you liked. I also really like itailian horror/camp from the 60-80.
of the top of my head a really cool short japanese film 'Empure tomato ketchup' stereolab titled an album after this movie. I love hard-to-find strange experiemental japanese films.
and... I dont remember ever seeing war of the worlds (orgl) I will check it out!
susie one of my favorite books is called 'The story of the Eye' it was written by one of my favorite authors/thinkers George Bataille. It also attemps to uncover the strange maddness that propels us all. It is writen
in a similar way as the movie... sort of realistic, but also very poetic. (It's quit 'graphic' and 'extreme' so dont get mad at me... if it's too much. ;) ) He's a wonderful writer.

A very few to start would be:

The Warriors
My Own Private Idaho
Arizona Dream
Ciao! Manhattan
Johnny Suede

I guess I would pick anything I've seen by Wes Anderson, Michel Gondry and Sofia Coppola and if kids movies like Labyrinth and Neverending Story count, then I'm picking those too. Some of the movies listed are actually movies I mean to see. I've seen Pulp Fiction but I usually end up seeing only one part when I rewatch it and I would also prefer to have more of an opinion on it seeing it on DVD instead without the censorship included when I watch it on basic cable.

the virgin suicides ,best ost ever too
