Favourite football / Soccer team

ziegfied girl, you are in for 90 minutes of pure emotion,
especially if you watch it with the right people.
(people who know the game, the history and the chants. beer always helps too;))

here in NYC the best bar to watch any match, but especially el Clasico is at Nevada Smiths. but what i would give to be at Camp Nou for the game

i just hope Madrid comes out attacking, and we will see a good game.

quick lesson for the new Culé.

"¿Qué se quema? Madrid. X3 Madrid se quema, se quema madrid, madrid se quema, se quema madrid. Madrid se quema, se quema madrid, madrid se quema, madrid se quema, se quema madrid"

"Olele Olala, ser del Barça es, el millor que hi ha'

"Madrid, cabrón, saluda el campeón"

that's it for today :flower:
Thanks for the chants dorien. I'm sure I'll have to work on my Spanish pronunciation.

Unfortunately the match started at 7am where I am so I had to watch it by myself in my living room. I was overseas last year, however, and was able to match Barcelona win the Champions League live in a pub/bar in Italy. That was a lot of fun! It must be amazing watching matches at Camp Nou.

What a match! I didn't expect such a comprehensive win from Barcelona. I thought Real Madrid would have scored at least 1 goal. I think Real Madrid have been in good form this season but they were really outplayed by Barca.

The end of the match was particularly intense. I suppose flare ups between players happen often during El Clasico but I think Sergio Ramos' actions were uncalled for. I quite like Ramos so it was a shame to see himself get sent off.

didn't want to open a new thread for something that is 8 and 12 years away
but today FIFA decided on Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022....

what are your thoughts on the host nations for the upcoming World Cups
never been to Russia.....Qatar, not so sure. it's not a even a fútbol nation!

tough luck Spain/portugal union.

anyways. i'm already thinking/planning my Brazil 2014 trip. SAMBA!!!
el joga bonito!

I am not happy about Russia or Qatar. Random and more random. Russia would be close to me but I have serious doubts about their ability to host something like this. First of all their fields are in horrible condition, they need to do a lot of repairment (not as much as SA though). And Qatar? umm.. okay.

They have time to restore everything though. It's a good thing though because developement throughout the countries will be promoted and achieved, just like SA. The distance in Russia itself though is huge.

Yeah! It's interesting to see what cities will be the main stadiums, I am guessing they wont build/restore anything in the east side of the country. But yes the distances are so big, Russia is like half of the globe

I did a quick search of Qatar, and it seems like a quite versatile country. Well, it's a one way to get the country to the tournament, they better have a decent team to represent.

2018 FIFA World Cup™

Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes (as no absolute majority was reached, the candidate with least amount of votes, England, was eliminated)

Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 13 votes (Russia obtained an absolute majority)

2022 FIFA World Cup™

Round 1: Australia 1 vote, Japan 3 votes, Korea Republic 4 votes, Qatar 11 votes, USA 3 votes (Australia eliminated)

Round 2: Japan 2 votes, Korea Republic 5 votes, Qatar 10 votes and USA 5 votes (Japan eliminated)

Round 3: Korea Republic 5 votes, Qatar 11 votes, USA 6 votes (Korea Republic eliminated)

Round 4: Qatar 14 votes and USA 8 votes (Qatar obtained an absolute majority)

^

Football is actually the most popular sport there.. (where's BerlinRocks when you need him, sighs)

I am happy for Qatar .. it's refreshing, it will open up the Middle East a little more and hopefully open some minds too about the Middle East, too. Only downside is the remoteness, which makes it crazy expensive if you're hoping to go (which I'm not lol).

Also happy for Russia, I think they'll be more than ready to host an event like this after their Sochi debut. I was also concerned on how they'd manage the distances but it's all staying in Western Russian, which makes sense even if the Eastern part could also benefit from some exposure/investment.

i think donovan's tweet pretty much sums it up for me

'I have an idea..we play Qatar in a friendly(they can even host it), and the winner gets to host the 2022 WC..wait, do they even have a team?'

fútbol is popular world wide, but at least most nations have a national team representing them and an established league.

i'm just happy we have Brazil 2014 coming up next. Brazil, a fútbol nation if there ever was one.

Nascido para jogar futebol - Born to play fútbol.

It is true though. Do you honestly think that the FIFA is not in it for the money. They're a bunch of douchebags making dumb statements and not willing to make rules or adjustments that does not benefit the FIFA directly or even indirectly. They're in it for the money, sure, not only for that but it's atleast 40% of their intentions.

I mean, the fact that they're an association and don't feel like they should play like companies do, says a bunch.

FIFA is full of corruption.

^Yes, that´s all true. But it´s nice that new countries get a chance to host the WC for the first time, regardless of the reasons.

That is true Empress Merel, unfortunately FIFA too goes after money. Douchebag is a great description of them

I don't ~honestly~ thing anything. I rolled my eyes at the stereotypical statement that an Arab nation only manages to score something thanks to its oil.

Thanks for the news break on a sports association with endless corruption scandals, though.

the ignorance in some of these posts are too sad to be laughable. if fifa was all about the money wouldn't they have gone for England? or America, i seem to recall them hosting the most financially sound WC ever.i applaud FIFA's decisions to go for two outsider countries instead of the usual suspects.Qatar is far modern and socially stable than most people give credit for.
i think it's odd that when fifa decides to bring the biggest event in football, 'the world's sport', to the rest of the world people get up in arms about it.

^I´d guess that Qatar has a lot more money than England, Spain or USA. We don´t know the extent of the lobbying that´s involved in these votes...

If modern means banning homosexuality, obscene language, alcohol, public displays of affection between a man and woman - and making it illegal to enter the country with non-islamic relgious books or material, nor letting anyone into the country who has an Isreali stamp in their passport... then yeah, okay.

(Information from the travel advice for qatar from the australian goverment.)

I was hoping Australia would get it, as we too, as a continent and country have never had the WC.
But money talks.
