Film Awards Season 2014-2015

I know it's early but Cannes is just around the corner, so I'm curious to see everyone's predictions for awards season!

Plus it's kind of fun to see what everyone thinks will do well at the start of the year, as there is always some fall outs - see August Osage County last year.


My early predictions for Best Picture:

I'm most excited for Gone Girl, A Most Violent Year and Interstellar. I would also include Carol (with Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett) but as it's still filming, I'm not sure it will get finished in time.

I've never been so excited for the Oscars before. So happy to see Estonian film being nominated.

I heard that was a good movie and it was snubbed a lot this year..

speaking of snubs, I know its been said all day, but Selma didn't get any Best Direction or Actor! While I havent seen the film yet it looks fantastic. But I'm biased as I live in the state where the Civil Rights Movement occurred and I have visited Selma..

Besides that I'm excited for the Oscars, lots of great movies!

I'm beyond happy with all the recognition that Wes Anderson and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" are getting because he I've been one of his biggest fans for like ten years. It's very special to me all this that is happening with it.

Laura Dern BETTER win the Oscar for Wild. I know the top runner right now and expected winner atm is Patricia, but I'm rooting for Laura so so much. She deserves it and she was the heart of Wild. so glad she's finally being recognised.

and I feel like Julianne Moore pretty much has this one in the bag. I've already been referring Still Alice to people as "that movie Julianne Moore is going to win her Oscar for" ink:

also, slightly disappointed Force Majeure was snubbed. I thought for sure it was going to get a nom.

ahhhh one more thing but I'm sorry (not sorry) to say that I am so goddamn over Meryl Streep being nominated for every single film she's in every. single. year. Are you kidding me? I saw Into the Woods and she was not Oscar worthy. It's time for the Academy to stop nominating her purely because she's the oh so perfect and godly~ Meryl Streep.

I think Boyhood is going to win Best Picture. It's literally an Oscar bait dream of a film.

And my favorites for this Oscar are...
I know it's not going to win for best movie, but Whiplash really won my heart here. I wish Miles Teller was nominated. He was intense. So I'm J.K. Simmons all the way for supporting male role. Ethan Hawke is boring and not at all a good actor. Edward Norton had better performances which were not awarded. Mark Ruffalo isn't even a good actor. He's always the same no mattter what haircut he gets. I didn't get to see Robert Duvall. As for director, I rather Richard Linklater wins for his body of work. I don't really like Boyhood. It's too lukewarm for me. But I don't care for Birdman either. At least, Boyhood has universal appeal. I think the backstage of cinema isn't relevant and not worthy of much discussion. Eddie Redmayne was just impeccable as Stephen Hawking. He deserves recognition because he transformed himself without the use of artifices like make-up or aging terribly. Unfortunately, I have no favorites for Best Actress. I haven't seen Julianne Moore yet, though. Reese Witherspoon was charming. Emma Stone is a sweetheart and I loved her character for Birdman. Keira Knightley was good in Imitation Game but not enough to be nominated. Same for Laura Dern. Patricia Arquette is a good actress, but did what she's used to do. I don't know. I have a big crush on Emma Stone. Now, for Best Foreign Movie, I would go with Wild Tales according entirely to my heart but Leviathan is a seriously intelligent piece of work there. So they both deserve it. Please, Best Adapted Screenplay should definitely go to Whiplash as a consolation prize. There's a nice message in it. To be genius, you gotta work hard. Nothing comes ready. It takes sacrifices and effort that goes beyond healthy boundaries. I don't really care about the rest. Most of it I haven't seen it, so... These aren't predictions. They are just my favorite picks.
