Finding your best colors

The title is pretty self explanatory: How do you know wich colours look good on you?

I find it quite hard to see when a colour looks good on me. Sometimes when I think a colour looks great on me someone else disagrees and vice versa. Is it really a point of view?

Determaning wich season skin/hair type you are seems to help, but how do you do that? Even with the discriptions I can't work it out . Not that I would stop wearing my favourite colours, but some insight never hurt anyone.

Lots of questions, does anyone have some answers?

You can actually go and "get your colours done", where people assess the colours that suit you, and give you fabric swatches to carry around with you. One of my girlfriends did this, but I can't recall where she had it done... It came in handy for her though, she looks amazing in all of the colours they gave her.

Hmm, I kind of want to get this done now that I've remembered it!

Yeah, I have went to a color analysis (thats how we call it in Finland). It was kinda usefull since now I know for example which color brings out the redness in my face and which doesnt etc.

it's just been trial and error for me....i seem to have an eye for it....sorry, i know that's not much help at all but i do think it is probably quite subjective... people might think i'm wearing all the wrong colours - who knows.. who cares

There's an update to the Color Me Beautiful book that I've been using to do others' colors that seems to be pretty good & definitely an improvement over the original. I don't think it's subjective, but of course there are variations from person to person within the categories ... purple seems to be especially variable in terms of what an individual's "best purple" is.

So which book are you looking at? The original Color Me Beautiful had everything absolutely nailed down, even to minute descriptions of eye colors. I have unusual coloring, and I could find myself in her descriptions with no problem ...

I'm not looking at a book, since I'm a student i need my money more for study related books I'm afraid..
That's why I was in search for some general tips/advice/websites .

In general, it's a matter of figuring out whether your coloring is cool or warm (your skin could be one & your hair the other as in my case), and how intense it is (the intensity of the colors you wear should match). Also, if you're ruddy, there are colors you'll want to avoid. My skin is very pink, and fuchsia is just a terrible color on me.

An image consultant will do this for you... I had it done and it is very worthwhile. Why bother with colours that make you look bad?

Personally, I think all colors look good on everybody; it just depends on the shade. You know, like warm + cool colors they are completely different yet still the same color!~
