Finding Your Perfect Red Lipstick

I've tried red lipstick while fooling around... but never had the guts to go around town walking with red hot lips.

the closest lipshade ive put on in red was "bourjois 3-D effect" Carmel Ethnic #95, which is a gloss with a deep red tint.

No, I was picturing about Naomi's color, maybe a shade ligher or darker. I just saw two women on tv this week with skin around that shade (not too much lighter or darker, and they were both different) who were wearing red lipstick and I thought it looked great.

I have twighlight fairy's problem: pale and young. It just doesn't work.

i loved the kind of dark red Marc Jacobs used for Louis Vuitton on his latest collection. I think i could pull that off but i'm too shy to try it

I love red lipstick. It's such a perfect balance of sexy and classy. I feel very confident when I wear it.

And this might sound odd...

But when I wear it I feel sexy, but untouchable, and pure. When I go out to the clubs and am wearing a little black dress and red lipstick, that is my "you can look but don't even TRY to kiss me and mess up my perfect red lipstick" look.

Um, yeah. I like Sonia Kashuk's red lipstick, I think it is called Geisha or something like that.

I'm still trying to find the perfect expensive red lipstick.

Oh, and all of you who think you are too dark or pale to wear red lipstick, start with a red sheer gloss. It's less intense. That's how I worked my way up red lipstick. It takes a while to get used to.

Also, the color in the tube is going to change when you put it on, due to the natural color in your lips. That's why on color that looks great on one person will look so different on another. If you want the color as it is straight from the tube, put concealer on your lips first. Plus, this will help your lipstick stay longer.

best shade of red lipstick for asians?

i'm asian n quite fair..what shade of red would u recommend? any specific brands? thanks!^_^

I like MAC Dubonnet. It's a warm creamy red.
For sheer lipstick I recommend Rimmel Desire, also warm toned. Cargo Nevis is another very sheer one.
For gloss, I like Biotherm #100

Hai.., it depends on the colour of your lips. Sometimes you have to source in some make up corners. For the texture I like Armani Red No. 6, it's quite mat but a bit creamy. I'm also asian... and it suits me well.

L'oreal's Candy Apple Red is quite good. Not too yellow, not too pink either. Very nice.

I'm asian too....for me a good true blood red is Nars Fire Down Below. I like their Flaming Dust too which is a sheer cherry color. For a redorange I love MACs Lady Danger. My current favorite is Shu Uemura Rouge 4 in #134 which is a Bright Peony Red shade.

Can you just tell I love red lipsticks?! ^_^

Just quick tips- apply a layer, blot then set with powder, then put on some more. Brian on this board told me to do that and it does stay longer. Thats what ladies did in the 50's apparently. If you have full lips like mine, using a deep color on the lips makes it lose dimension so make sure to put liner as well. :flower:

What is your favorite red lipstick?

Hi everyone...I'm starting this thread to inquire about everyone's opinion on the red lipstick. I want to hear and know about new shades, brands, and textures. I want to know which ones are long lasting and which ones aren't. I know that we all have different complexions and that one may work on some and not on others but I am in search of the perfect red lipstick and i'm very interested and looking forward to hearing everyone's ideas,
opinions, and suggestions etc. thank you;)

The Red Lipstick..

If someone posts their favorite red lipstick could they also post their skintone / undertones ? Imo skintone and undertones really go hand in hand with wether a red lipstick looks great or just plain wrong.. :flower:

From www.easylivingmagazine.com
Skin tone Pout make-up artist, Dee McMahon says, "The single most important thing to be aware of when wearing red lipstick is your skin tone. Are you a warm red or a cool red?"
If your skin has pink undertones you should stick to reds that have a pink base whereas, if you have warm yellow tones, you will best suit a red with a golden or tawny base (also great for bringing out green eyes). If you're pale and pink, lipsticks that have a touch of blue will be the best match for you. Berry tone reds (plum, raspberry, and cherry) are best suited to Asian skin.
Dee adds, "If you come across a true primary red the colour of a London bus, grab it. This colour suits everyone."

The color red is hotter than ever. And what better way to incorporate red than in your makeup? Red is one of the most dramatic makeup colors you can wear. It gets attention, you stand out in the crowd, and it's also the most misused, misunderstood color in the makeup field.
Let's take the mystery out of red.

LIPS: The first thing we think of is red lips. Yet, it can either look great, or horrible. What red works for you? An easy way to tell is to really look at that shade of lipstick.
All lipsticks have an undertone, or a color that is seen underneath the red. In red lipsticks, it can only be an undertone of:
yellow/orange (warm)
pink/blue/purple (cool)
or brown (neutral)
Yellow and orange undertones make red lipstick warm in tone, and work great for nearly all skin tones. It warms up the complexion, makes the skin tone look clear!
Pink, blue and purple undertones make the tone cool, and look best on those with light skin and cool undertones to their hair and skin.
Brown undertones are considered universal, because they look great on everyone.
What would look best on you?
Look at your skin tone, but ignore any red in your skin. Red is considered a discoloration, not a skin tone. The more yellow or brown you see in your skin, the more likely you'll like the warmer tones.
Is there an absence of yellow, or are you fairly pale? You'll like the cool undertones.
Still not sure? Then decide on the characteristic of the color you like better.
Warm colors always look softer, lighter, more romantic.
Cool colors will always look dramatic, sharp, clear.
What kind of a look are you looking for?
The newest way to wear red lipstick? Dabbed on as a tint with a slick of gloss over it, and without that precision lip line. More natural, and more real looking.

*still looking for that perfect red lipstick..*
