Flip Flops

Yeah my thinking is they probibaly are fake, although being ebay you cant rely on goods to come with all right packaging even if they are genuine.

Flip-Flops - When are they Inappropriate?

I read a news article today highlighting a slight debate over wearing flip-flops at the White House. I'm not sure what I think about it...

When ARE flip-flops too casual?

Team Sparks Flap Over Flip-Flops at White House

CHICAGO (July 19) - There's a flip-flop controversy at the White House, and this one has nothing to do with President Bush and John Kerry.

A photo of Northwestern University's national championship women's lacrosse team, taken during the athletes' visit to the White House last week, shows four of the nine women in the front row wearing flip-flop sandals along with their dresses and skirts.

The choice of footwear has prompted a mini-controversy - a flip-flop flap, if you will.

A front-page story in the Chicago Tribune included the headline ''YOU WORE FLIP-FLOPS TO THE WHITE HOUSE?!'' inspired by an e-mail sent to player Kate Darmody from her older brother after he saw the photo on the team's Web site.

Family members of other players expressed similar dismay, insisting the summer footwear staple was too casual for a visit with the president.

''Don't even ask me about the flip-flops,'' said the mother of player Aly Josephs. ''It mortified me.''

During an appearance Monday on NBC's ''Today,'' Darmody and teammate Shelby Chlopak said players planned to auction off the flip-flops they wore to the White House, with the proceeds to go toward a fund for a 10-year-old girl with a brain tumor.

The women have defended their attire, arguing they wore a dressier version of the casual sandal.

''Nobody was wearing old beach flip-flops,'' said Josephs, who wore a $16 brown pair with rhinestones.

Darmody, 22, added: ''I tried to think of something that would go well with my outfit and at the same time not be that uncomfortable. But at the same time not disrespect the White House.''

In 2001, Bush's daughter Jenna, then 19, wore black flip-flops in court, along with pink capri pants and a sleeveless black shirt, when she pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of being a minor in possession of alcohol.

The term ''flip-flop'' was used heavily during last fall's presidential debates when Bush repeatedly accused Democratic opponent Kerry of switching positions on issues.

On the beach, at home, at a picnic or a park; fine.

Shopping or running errands; maybe

Never at work, school or 'events'

But don't get me started about the White House and 'respect' as long as Bush is there.

I read this on the front page of the Chicago Tribune a few days ago, and I must say.... I have to agree. I just don't understand how these girls thought enough to put on a skirt and a blouse, but not to throw on a pair of heeled sandals or something. I think meeting the leader of the free world ranks up there with going to a wedding, or church. They are just times to present yourself in the best light.

I do believe that there is an increasing decline in manners, and taking pride in your appearance. A lot of people will criticize me for caring about the way I look, however I believe strongly in first impressions... and really, you never know when you are about to make one.

So right:flower:

I'm trying so hard to see something terribly wrong with this but I just can't. It looks like all the girls are dressed nicely in semi-formal skirts or dresses. For young girls in the United States these days, flip flops have become the staple "everywhere" shoe. Honestly, what the heck is the difference between a pleather sandal with a chunky one inch heel and a rubber flip flop with rhinestones? What makes the one so much more dressy than the other? Both are ugly, expose the large majority of your foot and make an annoying sound when you walk. I'm not a huge fan of the flip flop but I think these girls look fine. They weren't going to a formal $2000 a plate dinner at the White House!! As far as a cultural decline in morals and manners, I think we have a lot better contemporary examples than the footwear choices of a college girls' lacrosse team... Yet this has created an uproar. Don't people have more important things to worry about right now?? This story is getting nearly as much attention as Karl Rove right now!

I just don't understand the need for people to wear flip flops every where. There are so many stlyes of shoes... they can find cute comfortable ones. Especially in places of business...it is tacky in evey way. They might as well wear sweatpants too to the whitehouse!

I think there are instances in whigh flip flopslookgood- especially leather ones. or jeweled ones. But however dressy they are, i would choose a more traditional dress shoe if I were going somewhere.I think that everyone dresses to casually today. Even if you dress casually, do so with a little forethought, and not when you go to meet the president

Conde Rice on flip-flops in the White House.....

You just made my point about the lack of class and respect for common decency in the current Administration.

Eh.... I really dont see much wrong with this... it's hot as balls out... flip flops are a summer shoe.. it's not like they're in ripped up jeans and tanks...

Hah hah.. I love that an ad for Key West Sandal Factory that showed up at the bottom of this thread for me.. ;)

I don't think it's that big of a deal..

The article does state that they are planning to auction off the flip-flops to raise money for a 10 yr old girl with a brain tumor.. :)
