Flip Flops

i don't care if people wear flip flops even if they're not at the beach but wearing them to a formal visit at the white house is inappropriate, not matter who the president is. like belladawn said, there are a lot of other, prettier shoes that are also comfortable.

AGREED!
Wow... Im not necessarily a Bush fan, but my goodness! What were these chicks thinking... totally inappropriate...:o

I think that is the thing, at least with the US, we are so incredibly informal... its pathetic, IMO.:yuk:

Now I am a big flip flop person myself but those flipsflops don't look decent at all. I don't see anything wrong with wearing regular old flipflops to school, or even to the white house IF appropriate. I don't think the girls should have worn flipflops that looked so cheap! I probably would have worn a pair of flip flops myself but they would have looked a lot better than that!

Although I think it's silly to make a rule about flipflops if there was a rule against them I do see why.

They're crazy, what were they thinking. I like wearing flip flops but if I meet the president the thought of flip flops would never cross my mind. When I had to do this interview for school at some competition I went crazy cause I didn't have the right shoes. My dad still bugs me about it because I made him take me to buy new shoes during the night. It just isn't appropriate.

I love my flip flops, they look great with many things, but the girls in that photo look stupid! I understand the fuss. **shudder** :yuk:

Eh.... I really dont see much wrong with this... it's hot as balls out... flip flops are a summer shoe.. it's not like they're in ripped up jeans and tanks...

i agree. :flower:

i say wear them where you want to, just leave white alone-ok so that's a personal taste thing jaja.

 @ auctioning the shoes off.

the funny thing is, i wore flip flops to the wedding i was IN last weekend.
but it was a relaxed wedding, i was the 25 year old flower girl, and i got to toss petals as i was walking down the path/aisle (the bride had the neat idea of using the path alongside the chairs instead of the middle aisle in this outdoor wedding).
she loved my outfit (virginal white dress) and loved my choice of footwear. she said it was "perfect"!

flip flops are not for work or events etc... but my personal opinion is that i dont like flip flops on the beach because its anoying trying not to get any sand in them :(

I am behind in my Vogue reading, but I just finished July's issue. For the life of me I can not remember who, but someone wore a goreous gown with flip flops to an event. I don't have the mag handy, so someone who does please feel free to elaborate!

I myself am guilty of wearing "flip flops" to an event. I was working a red carpet event in Vegas and wore some (obviously not $5 Target ones of course). Should I have? Probably not. But every woman, PR person and journalist who passed said I was a genius. Ha! I was younger though, I can't imagine I would do it today.

I have no problem with flip flops at any event, as long as they're not Old Navy brand but like a nice Birkenstock or a designer flip flop. But the flip flops they're wearing are plain ugly, even the non-flip flops are VERY ugly, teams should get stylists, especially all-girl teams that play boyish sports....:innocent:

... As a Nordstrom employee (and I am sure at other high end stores) youre not allowed to wear flip flops...
Its just not considered proper no matter what high fashion Vogue says...

the platform flip flop is one of my most hated items ever, they-are-so-ugly.

I really mentally seperate a thong sandal and a flip flop. Flip flop brings rubber and foam to mind... perhaps some cheap sequins. These girls could have worn a nice leather thong sandal, perhaps with some beading... it would be just as comfortable, and still give that casual, but put together look.

"$16 brown pair with rhinestones."

I hate platform flip flops as well, they have the worst proportions. Regarding work places I wear flip flops to work, they dont say anything to me because I make it look good, its not like Im wearing mud covered Old Navy flip flops but Im wearing black leather John Varvatos ones. It doesnt hurt that Im the best employee the mens section at Lord & Taylor has ever seen.

That is a HUGE insult to the president to wear flip-flops, it's a sign of disrespect. Christ, you might as well wear a garbage bag while you're at it. Don't their parents teach them anything? It's those kind of people that makes me ashamed to be an American.

^^True, but there are so many things that people are ignorant enough to do (much worse than wearing flip flops) that make me ashamed to live in the states. On the flip flop subject, I myself wear them everywhere, school, errands, movies, daytrips, etc. Everyone around me seems to do the same, being a Californian, I can say its normally the weather that motivates me to wear them instead of sweaty sneakers

I hate the really cheap plastic $1.99 some stores produces, oh I hate it when girls wear flip flops during the winter time.. It makes me really mad.

I wear flipflops all the time ... now I am devotee ... but in here I wear em for practical reasons ... on the rainy season ... I dont want my shoes/socks to get wet... so I put my shoes and socks on a bag and then change before job/whatever ... when its my day off .. I wear casual clothes but I'd never do anything formal -like going to church or dine or whatever- on flipflops ... and they're sooo comfortable ... but I dont think it doesnt matter much .. I'm a guy and Madge said guys can get away with everything ..
