I'm noticing these pseudo-capes / loose backs more and more on the runways
First up...

I adore this! It gives such a beautiful profile when done right!

I forgot what this is technically called, I always call it a hunchback, which admittedly is a horrible name for anything fashion related.

I'm not usually fond of the look, but I did like some of the tops at Balenciaga.

edit- here's another great view of a Balenciaga look.

you have to have no boobs for this to work, but when it does, it's gorge.

Looks like it had been starting since fall 07

interesting observation gius

what season marni is that ?

i think this is hard to spot from the forward facing runways shots

All the ones at the top are S/S 08, unless noted :flower: ^

yes true
there are even a few more @ Prada f/w 07 which are loose at the back but you can't see it at the front -a grey vest Vlada Roslyakova wears w/ grey + acid pencil skirt

at first i thought it's practical
it's good to have air at the back during warm months
but it's making its way to fall as well (there are some capes in the autumn menswear)

oh thanks . .
i dont know why i didnt recognise the marni as ss08

i love the balenciaga on natalia
it creates a beautiful silhouette without being awkward

i'd love to see this being worn in real life . .

they're great --thanks adorefaith ^_^

actually the last one, the shiny grey is overall fairly loose i think
it has a wonderful flow over the body
it's like it doesn't even sit on the skin

this silhouette goes back far further than prada 07.

cristobal balenciaga himself did this a lot.

Great thread - this one Sasha is modelling at Giambattista Valli had a turtle back - always thought it was way interesting looking, sort of simplifies the silhouette and unexpectedly rounds the back shapelessly, contrasting with the shapely front. If you watch the video you can see it much better.
