Foods good for your skin

Erm, I thought coconut oil was one of the tropical oils we're supposed to avoid? It's used in all manner of baked goods, and it's in Mentos (for the mouth feel I assume).

It's actually a myth. Remember, it's the quality of the oil that determines whether it's good or not. There is safe, good quality coconut oil.
The same idea applies to saturated fats. If you get saturated fat from a good source, it is actually very helpful for your body (and skin). If you get saturated fat from processed foods, then you will get sick...

Thanks for the article cosmogrl5!:flower:

Hmm... I wonder how long it'll take to see the difference after modifying my diet. Hopefully not too long!:innocent:

I got Flinstone's Gummies vitamins the other day :-p . ha maybe it'll help my skin.

 Flinstone's vitamins are the best! When I was a kid, I used to try and eat them like candy and my mom had to hide them so I wouldn't O.D. LOL.

It's like dieting to lose weight: it's a slow process... Expect a gradual change... It won't take a week, more like a month or two. Just be patient, years of "abuse" won't be undone in a few days. :flower:

Another point to note about chocs is beware and avoid lower-grade chocs that use butter and other stuff in the chocolate making process, the higher-grade chocs normally use lesser ingredients as well.

Something to do with butter helping the smoothness or thickness of the chocolate or something, I might be wrong though.

someone mentioned yogurts in this forum and for the past few months i've been eating yoplait light thick and creamy yogurt. for me, it is sooo good. i don't really like chunks of fruit in mine and i hate it when it's like..watery and light.. and this is really..well.. thick and creamy. hah. and it has no fat and 100 calories! it's not that filling, but it's still really good if you want to have some yogurt.

Apparently grapes are pretty good for your skin too! I love eating white seedless grapes, yum!

dairy products might be good for your skin but it's so bad for your diet. so i usually just slap yogurt + milk on my face =P

contray to the popular belief, juices are horriable for your skin. esp orange juice. it puts too much acid in our system.

Definitly the salmon (but if poss try to buy wild salmon and farmed salmon can have very high levels of mercury and other poisons that ccumulate in your body) and other omega 3 oils. Beta carotenne is very good for your body - a good way to get this is to eat different fruit and vege colors (ie: red capsicum, purple cabbage, green kale and so on) through out your meals.

Another thing to note about chocolate (and I think dark chocolate in p[articular?) is that it is a good source of iron - perhaps why I crave it with PMS. But all good things in moderation...

The right diet is so important. For me atleast..couple of weeks ago I was 100% raw food diet for two days..though the 100% lasted for only 2 days, my skin was better than ever.

I hear chlorella, a kind of algae, is great for getting rid of contaminants like mercury from the body. Apparently you must adjust your dosage of it according to your feeling because if you get a tad too much, you can get dizzy:flower:

Healthy Oils. These contain more than essential fatty acids. Eating good-quality oils helps keep skin lubricated and keeps it looking and feeling healthier overall, Lipski tells WebMD.

How exactly does my digesting olive oil keep my skin lubricated? I'm a firm believer that food does not make a significant impact on your skin unless you're rubbing greasy pizza all over your face.

^ I don't understand how what you eat couldn't make a difference to your skin, when what you eat is key to your health, and your skin is the largest organ in the body ...

^Exactly, fashionista-ta...

Your diet has a profound effect on your general health, how you feel, and yes, your skin too.

We as people seem to acknowledge that dogs need foods that suit them, cats need foods that suit them. We know that our plants need water and certain fertilizers. We know that they are affected by what we give them.

Guess what, so are we ourselves! ;)

People can live on junk food for decades without dying, but if they ate healthier they would look better and feel better...

Great health isn't really only absence of sickness, but a general feeling of well-being.

Actually i use to eat 1 huge papaya daily (for about 5 weeks) and I really can recommend this vit-c-bomb to everyone. my skin does not only becomes more and more soft, another positive "side effect" is the colour of my skin - i guess from the beta carotin!;)

This also reminded me ... it's worth noting that youth is a kind of grace period where you can often do all kinds of crazy things without any immediate obvious effects. But believe me, this grace period wears off (unless you pull a James Dean) and chickens do come home to roost :innocent:

In addition to what you're putting in your body, what's going on in your mind is just as important. I can trace problems with my skin *directly* to stress. I'm a big believer that your physical health reflects your mental and emotional health. This is another big area where effects may not show up immediately, sometimes they manifest much later (or are only diagnosed much later). I really believe it's important to have positive thoughts, and to get anger/bitterness/resentment/feelings of powerlessness/etc. cleared up and away ...

I think my skin is getting better since I've made my diet healthier, or it I'm making myself think that!:innocent: slowly but surely:blush:

some people eat tons of junk and remain with fabulous skin
some people eat so healthy but with not-so-gorgeous skin
what should i do?
