Ford Supermodel of the World Success

Supermodel of the World (Ford Supermodel of the Year, formerly, Face of the 80s) is an international modeling contest established by Eileen Ford in 1980. The contest showcases young fashion model entrants from over 50 countries in order to discover new talent for the fashion industry. The winner of the international final event receives the industry's largest prize, a $250,000 modeling contract with Ford Models. The 1st and 2nd runners up receive contracts of $150,000 and $100,000 respectively. While the 3rd and 4th runners up receive $50,000.

Although Gemma did not sign with Ford, she competed at Search For a Supermodel wherein the winner will represent Australia at the international finals. The format of the competition was like a reality show where Gemma was cut early on. A year later, IMG signed her and she walked for Prada & Miu Miu exclusively

Renee Simonssen (sp??) who I think was the second winner of the Face of the 80s contest was probably the most successful contestant coming out of the contest. She was huge in the 80s, appearing on international versions of Vogue as well scoring a contract with Cover Girl and numerous campaigns for the highest of high fashion clients. Annette Stai the very first winner was also fairly big in the 80s.
Other successes include Vanessa de Assis, Carrie Miller, Michelle Behenah, and Magdelena Wrobel.

Tricia Helfer, very successful model, actress in Battlestar Galactica, recent celebrity Playboy cover, also hosted first season of Canada's next top model (no one remembered she had been a model).
