The whole point of the competition still eludes me too Charlotte. 10 days after Ford picked the winner and her court, there is still no formal announcement or introduction to the press. And then when the showcards do show up, only one girl from the top 10 made it in. What happened to the top 5? Ring....ring...ring...."Hello Katie and Eileen? Wakey-wakey!!"
indeed!
These contest have always been more marketing/corporate events than anything else. This is not new, statistically, Elite, Ford or whatever, the number of top 3 girls who made it big is not higher than the number of not well ranked girls who made it big.
The winners are usually choosed more by "politic" reasons than anything else. in some countries, some agencies use a lot these contest at national level to promote their scouting, so a girl from a mother agency "close" to ford has always much more chance to do well, than a girl coming from an agency not really very close partner and this is just a small exemple of how it really works...
in Ford, nobody realy cares who wins, they perfectly know all the contestant well before the selections, most of them are not really new faces, some are even often with some good book already developed in sub market like asia, greece, turkey...
some finalist have already Ford contract before the final, if the girl who wins has no contract in pocket before, she can forget to do anything with Ford.
I can for exemple tell you that the Lithuanian finalist did not win anything, but she already know she goes to NY next summer with Ford, and she know it since well before the contest...
