With the collection Galliano did a couple of seasons ago and the upcoming Sophia Coppola's Maria Antoinette movie (and some weird small hidden references that I dunno why but see in collections such as latest Balenciaga) ... I strongly believe that french baroque may be a major trend soon (if not now?)... I just kinda feel it ... do you agree?

Is this time to start on practicing on how to perfect your pompadour a-la-Suzy Menkes?

My answer ... I'd LOVE that!

My eyes are salivating already... and I don't mean crying.

I imagine Balenciaga's baroque prints will be copied pretty extensively by the high street stores this coming summer. I loved the pant suits shown on the Balenciaga catwalk but I am not so sure I want to wear what looks not disimilar to upholstery fabric head to toe!!!

I love it personally, 18th century French is one of my favorite times for fashion. The corsets, the frilled cuffs, the grandeur, the eroticism....it's fabulous.

Well... even tho I'm not crazy about the whole horrori vacuo thing of baroque ... maybe some accesories or pattern applied smartly may help

doesn't it seem like this is part of the new gothic trend that we have been seeing...?

perhaps in a more exaggerated way...

there seems to be a lot of overlap...
because the new revivals are not straight copies of older styles or periods...
but a blend of several influences...
so in my mind this is already happening to a certain extent...

I love baroque! I don't see how it is new gothic, though?

same here.. :ninja:

you certainly touched a trend theme there ultra,
there is already a minimal-baroque mix boiling in interior architecture
as i the forums of the maison&object trade fair in Paris..
imagine white minimal environments and crystal chandelieurs,
mixes of gold with white, in a 'touched' Versailes mood

dare say.. the new ysl ss06 has a very baroque feeling B)

eta: gorgeous avatar ultramarine

The Chanel Couture S/S 2005 was in this direction, it was also around the time of Marie-Antoinette filming?

Balenciaga gave me this vibe with their s/s 06 collection:

It reminded me much of the decorative arts of the French Baroque style, as well as a lot of the Roccocco influence that followed.

Also, the new YSL ads are right up this alley.

There's a fever for Parisian influence, the luxurious and almost-decadent kind.

Chanel could almost fit in, even though it was more neo-classical than baroque

Balenciaga is more edwardian no?

Oh this would be an amazing spin on fashion. I love the richness and the decadence of it all! *swoons* And those pictures from Chanel were lovely! Simply immaculate! ^_^

I "felt" this trend too! I think it's absolutely lovely and I'm ready to see some takes on it!

Do you think so?

I was noticing the black/white palette; the heavy accent on curves and filigrees; the abundance of lace and detail as Baroque.

But I think that Ghesquiere's lightness of touch as well as the emphasis on the cream lace definitely pushes the collection more toward the rococco and Edwardian.

Perhaps a bit of a few different styles.
