French Baroque and Rococco

Great thread..! Yes I think this is definitely a trend, and a nice one... A few influences from the new gothic look like Softie said?

Naw, baroque is totally different, I'd say more ornate and natural. But I'm thinking about the art style, I don't know what kind of influence it would have on clothing. Think Bernini.

I would love to figure out a way to adopt this kind of ornate design into an everyday outfit... I feel like its an overwhelming aesthetic but I love it nonetheless.

The Chanel couture F/W 2003 was also inspired by the baroque period I think.

This Chanel S/S 06 shirt may be a bit baroque?

I love that Chanel collection above, such a great mix of elements with the high collars, ruffled blouses, Amelia Earhart caps and white leather stilettopants.

OMG! I LOOOOVE you guys!

I thought it was just plain wishful thinking but it seems that baroque its being hinted for a while now and soon the ripple effect will catch on for our delight!

PS Le ... Thanks for the props on the avatar .. on the spirit of the thread I used Marie Antoinette as inspiration for my avie!

you are welcome ultramarine

 but was M.A. a Baroque persona?
time to check my history books

I remember that guys wore the wigs and women wore those incredibly beautiful and complicated updo's .. like on "Affair of the necklace" ... Marie Antoinette wore a birdcage with live birds on her head ... it just cant get more decadent and baroque than that (OMG! I hope Galliano doesnt read this)

Was Versailles considered Baroque or more Rococo?

Either way though I absolutely adore it.

I know art wise, at least in architecture, Gothic and Boroque are from entirely different time periods... Gothic, then Renaissance, then Boroque, then Rococo, then Neoclassisicm.

But I think in terms of fashion people tend to get their references mixed up, because Gothic and Boroque were both elaborate compared to what followed (Gothic followed by Renaissance referencing classisicm of Greece/Rome, and then Boroque/Rococo followed by neoclassicm also referencing Greece/Rome). I think its great that they mix it up!! Fashion shouldn't be too studied and referenced.. just throw everything you like together as long as the end product is gorgeous!

I loved Balenciaga's S/S collection.. so ornate and beautiful.. but I think the runway pieces need to be toned down for actual usage in real life for sure. I'm not european royalty so I can't exactly walk around in full out boroque or anything :innocent: :D

am loving the trend as a whole.
how will it find its way into mainstream fashion?
australian perspective...it'll be lots and lots of black lace, darker hair colours, lots of red accessories, the end of the wooden bead things that i am SO HATING right now...all paired with the beloved pair of jeans, possibly grey and definetley skinny. although id like to see jeans off the scene for awhile...

Thanks for the information CharlottefromCA! :flower:

Karl Lagerfeld's baroque inspiration for those couture pieces is quite fabulous! Truly impressed!
