French Baroque and Rococco

brocade is the 'magic fabric' for translating this antique mood in totay's fashion

I think baroque/rococo is gonna be huge over the next few weeks.....

I agree. It's kind of funny actually, now that we are finally getting more minimalistic and suddenly baroque appears. The extreme opposite of minimalist is definetly baroque. Perhaps it is a reaction from the non-minimalists to exaggerate their point. Watch out for big contrasts between different couture shows next week.

I agree. Total contrasts already in the menswear. Ostentation and excessiveness is making a big comeback and I quite like it! B)

Looks like McQueen tapped into the mood as well, but done in black it looks surprisingly modern.

It's a bit contradictory .. this are not times for the lush and decadence and luxury with the economy ... and still we see this excessive pieces at sky-high price tags which sell ... hum ... just like before the french revolution ... is this History repeating? :whistles:

"Off with their heads! Sentence first, veredict, then!"

this is only natural MrDale, like you said, including interior decoration trends, contrasting moods co-exist at the same period of time so all kind of 'styles' are effectively 'covered'.

the mcQueen version just posted is so dark and poetic

Do you think designers or highstreets will come up with pompadourbags? I actually considered getting one before finding this thread. If they will be available I wouldn't have to ask my friend to make one for me ö_Ö

I was looking through some of Lacroix's couture collections and noticed a lot of baroque/rococo details in the f/w 03 collection.

Actually, a lot of it is kind of a mix of the two, the very soft, pastel colors with the heavy baroque embroideries.....

I was reading through the textiles report today for winter06/07 and it was talking about Baroque...it had a picture of a painting too, very Romantic looking...a woman with red hair...I don't know the name of it.

Well I was browsing Elle.com and what should I find.....a style feature on all things baroque (though they squashed it together with Victoriana). I figured I'd share some of the more fitting picks.

And while I was checking out the new Cavalli mens show on Firstview I found a picture of the set which I though was so fitting for this thread....well, if you ignore Posh spice.

i'm still swooning over mcqueen's presentation!

I'm actually considering adopting a cravate for my main accessory next fall. It looks incredibly cool with jeans and a tee shirt with a coat thrown over.

and if this look isn't fit for the courts at Versailles, I don't know what is.

Looks more like Folies Pigalle of a Friday night than high court..
