Alright, no offense to anyone here currently sporting a French pedicure, but yuck. What's up with this?! I'm a GTA and there's a girl who sits in the front row of one of my classes who has a French pedicure. I find myself fixated on her ultra-long, French pedicured toenails the entire class because they're just so ghastly to me. Now, I'm starting to notice them everywhere! Am I alone in hating this look?! Or is there something I'm missing? Perhaps they give you super-power or something? I don't know, for some reason they just weird me out. So...you can either share in my disgust or explain their appeal :p

hopefully I don't come accross as a complete idiot when I ask: but what exactly is a 'french' pedicure?

tiffany, it's just like a french manicure, but on your toes

a french manicure is clear gloss on the whole nail, and really white tips. Here's a pic of the manicure version :

I agree, hipkitten, I don't really get it on the feet, either...

But worse than the french pedicure are the toenails that extend past your toe  Long fingernails may be pretty, but long toenails

Curious: That's exactly what I'm talking about - these suckers are long! I just don't get it!

Here's an example (and a toe ring too  )

I personally don't like french manicures anymore. I wore acrylics in high school and would get the white tips with pink powder...that was okay but to paint white nail polish over pink polish just doesn't cut it.

I find long fake nails a bit scary but those French manicured toenails a simply too much

I think the keys to having a nice looking French pedicure are that the nails have to be short and the white tips need to be relatively small...Not like the pic posted here...That looks really wierd!:ninja:

Lux, you know that's true. Keep the white tip as small as possible. A very thin white strip and you may be able to get away with it. I still think it doesn't belong on the toes. :)

You might be right . I did it last summer and I thought it looked pretty good tho...It didn't look anything like the pic posted here . Another weird thing about the nails in that pic is that they're so pink...I think it looks better when the polish is in a neutral shade.

I was going to get one on monday... I thought it'd look okay if I kept the white part small... :ninja:

My toenails are always very short.

If not a french pedi.. what color on my toes would you recommend.. I've tried just getting the "french pink" but it looks like nothing... I have an event coming up.. I'm wearing a black dress... bright blue shoes, blue shrug thing... what color if not the french pedicure.

I'm fond of Lippmann's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" if you're looking to go light. For something dark (which I prefer on toes) I'd go with a deep red - something like Lippmann's "Lady is a Tramp" :flower:

Anyway, I just can't endorse French pedi's - thin or not - I think that girl scarred me for life :p

i really dont like french manicure or pedicure, it looks strange somehow

 I had no idea they did that on toes - that seems a bit wrong, and possibly impractical? thanks for the explanation though :flower:

I personally think it it looks horrible !! but If youa re going to get one I think it looks better if you're tanned.

nothing worse than long TOE NAILS:sick:

french pedicure is fine IMO. i sometimes have it but on really short nails and kind of square shaped.
that pic is def a nono:ninja:

maybe also because where i live noone ever has super long white tips on their french manicures. nails are always kept to the shortest:innocent:

Luna, how about this? Or may be silver...

Or, do light-pink and nail-art.
